    Default Blood Pressure

    In september I was around 115-125/75-80, now I'm 140/90

I've measured it a few times this week, and its always around there. I've booked a Doctor's appointment for wednesday, and I just wanted to be reassured that I won't die before then.

A little more background info, I'm 6'7, 205lbs. So not over weight at all, quite slim. I moved out last August, so I guess my diet changed, but by no means do I eat like crap.

In the summer I'm usually pretty active, and last winter I played on 2 volleyball teams and one ball hockey team. This year I did nothing until January because of unrelated medical reasons, and now I'm only on one volleyball team.

Is there a good chance this will get better with the increase I've had lately in physical activity?

140/90 is nothing to be alarmed about....in fact, I'm usually close to that....There are any number of factors affecting your blood pressure at any time, stress, diet, alcohol, in fact even thinking about it has a small effect! I would just continue to do what you are normally doing, and see where it goes....remember, everyone is unique in what is considered normal.....Plus, the heart and stroke foundation had changed their normal guidelines from 120/80 to 130/90.....

Sweet! And straight from a paramedic. Thanks a lot man, I'll worry about this a lot less now.

Mine was much higher and I'm still around.
    Mine topped 170/120 sometimes...

140/90 won't kill you, at least not right away.
Another thing to consider is where and when you test it. BP is higher in the afternoon/evening, and much higher immediately after moving around.
So, if you're using one of those machines at safeways or wherever, take your blood pressure twice to see what I mean.
Mine will drop 15 points on both the systolic and diastolic after sitting down for 2-3 minutes.

Just got back from the doctor... he measured it at 122/78

Supposedly with long arms you need a longer cuff for it to be accurate???

    You're very healthy.

120/80 is the target for goodness. 120/70 is awesome.

Well as TurboMedic said above, the new guideline is 130/90... I didn't know that, but I'll take his word since Calgarys EMS probably knows what they are talking about.
