Garage Cabinets

Ok I’ve never had a garage till now, I’m super pumped but it’s just a slab of concrete and walls. What kind of setup do you guys have in your garage? Where did you get cabinets and workbenches from?

Look for some used kitchen cabinets for the upper cabinets, Tims Reusables off of Edmonton Trail in the NE usually has lots of old cabinets for cheap

i already tried there for my garage man. they are a rip. they want alot of money for old beat up cabnets. they had these gawd awful ugly blue kitchen cabnets. they were all beat up too, and they wanted $800 bucks for them!

For a garage, open shelves are the way to go. You can see where everything is. No need to hide your stuff in cabinets.

ah damn I dun have pics of our garage at the moment but yeah open shelves = le way to go. But for all bottles and small stuff we have shelves with "cubbie holes" in them. Different hole for different stuff. Very very organized. All the big stuff goes on the open shelves which we made out of some heavy as shit 2x10's. Solid yo.

open shelves are easy to build, cheap, and convenient but they don't look as tidy. It's very convenient to be able to open a cabinet toss your stuff inside and close the door. That way you go for the illusion that you are a tidy person. Plus I need something with a work bench area.

Home depot has some really cool plastic parts for building shelves out of 2x4s.

They are black and VERY simple. If I can find a picture I will post them.

here is a pic of shelves i built in my garage.

but i absolutely need multi level cupboards under my work bench also. (which i haven't been able to find at a bargain yet)

however i do have some really cool Gulf metal cabnets from a parts store but no pics, you can see them in this pic tho

Open shelving always looks messy, and if you do any sort of actual work in your garage, everything on those shelves gets all dusty and dirty. I snagged a set of cabinets/drawers from my dad's house during their renovation, and it's great for putting all my tools in. Everything is neatly organized and everything has a place. For the upper cabinets, I didn't even bother with shelves in them, I just put punchboard and hung the tools inside them, and on the inside of the doors. Built my own countertop out of basic plywood and simply polyurethaned it because I like that slightly rough look. Maybe one day if I come across a nice sheet of arborite I'll pretty it up. I'm currently in the middle of building a solar power setup for my popup camper, so it's messy, but I'll post some photos of the garage later today.

Put an ad on kijiji looking for cheap/free old cabinets for use in a garage.. you'll find some soon enough. Lots of people renovating kitchens all the time.

Whenever companies downtown buy new ofice furniture they usually either give away or sell the old stuff for 10 cents on the dollar. I've picked up very strong metal cabinets from them on several occasions.

This. I built my own using 5 old doors from my house reno's, 2x4's, and plywood. Also installed hinged sliding doors, so they open bottom to top, then slide into the cabintet.

Plan on putting checker plate on the whole thing eventually as well. Keep in mind though, I actually use my garage for mechanical work, and don't just park in there.
