its not so much a stupid idea, but its going to be a hard market to compete in and actually make money with businesses like contemporary, speedtech and auto-dream already cornering the market.
i mean these guys are flying around north america and to japan getting distribution rights to products.
your basically going to have to buy from these guys at retail or close to it and your going to have to try and turn a profit on it.
so i would say that if you don't have a special niche to fill its not gonna work out in the end. just look at speedville (big shop) and impressions and all the countless other come and goers. and especially out in the okotoks/high river area
i'm sure that eventually i will have my own space for what i do, but i'll definatly say i would never be a parts retailer also. just too much of a crowded market to make it worth my while.
Machining, Fabricating, Welding etc.
Plus High River...custom CARS? Not gonna work, maybe trucks, but Truck Effects has a pretty devout following.
I lived there for 18 years and saw maybe 2 dozen customised cars worth my attention in that whole time.

What leads you to your conclusion that he is a teenager???Originally posted by 2002civic
wow whats with all these teenagers trying to start companies and asking for advice on here lately
What's wrong with it? These guys have an idea (feasable? maybe not) and you cut them down and belittle them? Nice. Gotta start somewhere.Originally posted by 2002civic

I don't think that it would work in High River because of the population. Calgary has got 1 Million people and a nice amount of cash here. There just aren't enough people out there to make it work. Find another niche that no one is doing there. Good luck if you move on it.
^^ I agree with you on both points.
Aim High and achieve your goal!!!
its always the same old shit from this crowd

idealy it sounds great! but realistically i do not see this happening at all. And I am not being a prick, but when you think about trying to start a shop. Overhead is your biggest problem. Sure it sounds great and all, and the dream is nice. Be prepared to loose alot of money just trying to start the company.Originally posted by bmxneon420
Yes, but my thoughts are these people have to get everything online or in the city, therefore alot of people don't do this kind of stuff. If its right here in town, it will spark interest and everyone would be interested.
I am aware that there are all the big places in Calgary that do a great job. I'm not trying to be a competitor to them, I'm simply trying to promote customization to the people in this town, because yes, they are all boring, few people have much on their cars. and those that do have anything on their cars are buying CRAP from Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire in Okotoks because it's close enough that its not much of a trip, and its cheap CRAP. If I could bring in the higher end merchandise then these ricers in high river wouldn't be so pathetic to have a wal-mart riced ride...at least it will have good brand names...given I can get the suppliers set up.
Honestly, I would like to team up with Speedtech and Tunerworks and all the places in the city, but I doubt anything like that would fly over...kind of just makes me the middle man in the end...
I could actually go on for about 20 pages about what you would need in order to start your own company and have a well run shop. If anything try Ecommerce.......
Your trying to jump into a market with too many fish in the sea.
Do you go to school? or have you gone to college....or is this just an idea....
its not the fact it s a neon, i like the srt-4s and have seen many nice neons, its the fact that its got altezzas, american eagle rims and a windsheild banner, the fast and the furious was 5 years ago...if you like it go for it but to me it screams high school back in the day..best of luck on your business however....

customizing cars is about one's own thoughts...not everybody else's...if i cared what everyone else thought I woulda bought myself something else, but I personally like the neon and I love my car, and I'm not scared to show it.

some of the richest people i know didnt attend university
as for your business
no i dont think it'll work
you dont even have a business plan laid out
but even if you did, it doesnt seem like it would work
the market just isnt big enough for such a small town
population is just under 10,000 people

in a way 2002civic is right
you cant just think of an idea and think that people will buy from you and come to you
there is so much more than just creating an idea and starting a business
