    Default Mazda -> Ford?

Is Mazda a subsidary or a sister company of Ford? I just recently heard that Ford made Mazda so I have to know if its true. Thanx

Ford bought out Mazda, so Mazda is a subsidiary of Ford.

They have been partners for years and years. The Ranger and the B-series trucks have been built on the same platform from almost the beginning.

    Ford relationships with many manufacturers.

i.e. Nissan Quest = Mercury Villager

Isn't there only like 3 or 4 car makers now. Everyone is owned by someone else.

^ I have a 2005 Mazda Tribute and it feels like it was made in my neighbours garage.

my 1988 mazda 626 was made in Japan, but I think the non turbo version may have been built in Mexico / North America

the lower volume models probably are.

Things like the MX-5, RX-8 are likely still made in Japan. I am sure everything else is made in North America. could be wrong though.

I think the Mazda 6 is produced in Michigan, and I also read somewhere that the Mazda 3 is starting production in China. Not sure about their trucks though. It seems Mazda has kept most of it's manufacturing in Japan though.

Mine's from one of the Hofu plants - the main Mazda3 production facilities.

The 3's based on Ford's C1 platform - also used for the Volvo S40 and the MkII (Euro) Focus.

The only distinct Mazda product left is MX-5 and RX-8.

Everything else is share with other Ford products.

Did the Escort ever share any Mazda technology? Somebody told me this once. Kinda curious why all other early-90's Fords have died yet the Escorts live on with very few mechanical problems...

The RX8 is made in Japan. Ford is using the Mazda 6 chassis in a number of cars throughout the world.

Ford has a Mazda plant just south of Detroit which does build some cars.. I can't remember exactly which ones but I believe quite a few.. It's a huge plant.

Also, Ford owns many companies.. Volvo, Mazda, Land Rover, Jaguar just to name a few. It's the "Ford family of car companies" ford.com is your friend. Yah i'm biased.

The disturbing thing to me is that Mazda is using that crappy Ford duratech V6 in the Mazda 6 instead of developing their own V6. Outside of the turbo 4 cyl in the Mazdaspeed 6, Mazda has been producing some pretty anemic engines. Hell even Volvo shares some platforms with Ford & Mazda.
