    Default Torque VS Hp???

    hey all..
    i think it was coolmodys sig on abcars.net but what do you guys think about it???
    "hp sells cars , torque wins races"
    what would you rather have more torque or more hp??? and basically what are the benefits of having ...
    --> more torque than hp
    --> more hp than torque

    id just like some insight on this tnx all

    Horsepower is a function of torque.

    hp = (tq * rpm) / 5252

    The answer is you want torque at both low rpms AND at high rpm's, which will "give" you horsepower. Torque is what accelerates your car. Horsepower is "sort of" an indication of how much torque you have over what kind of engine speed. If you have a car with shitloads of torque but a 4000rpm redline, you'll accelerate to 4000rpm and shift, which lowers your torque to the wheels (the transmission is a torque multiplier). A car with less torque but with an 8000rpm redline will allow you to shift at higher speed, therefore having more torque at the wheels during acceleration for that 1 particular gear (after the 4000rpm car's shift point), assuming gearing is identical.

    The area under the hp curve between shift points is what's important. Good torque is important to get you to the lowest shift point.

    so someone explain to me how the s2000 makes soo much hp with soo little torque and still gets 0-60 in 5.5?
    Listen fam, she had a big rack of lamb
    And they caused mad problems like math exams
    Ask my man, her tits caused traffic jams

    hp = (152tq * 8300rpm) / 5252 = 240hp

    0-60 in 5.5 sec is achieved because there's a lot of torque in 1st gear due to a low gear ratio. Also, the car weighs only 2600lbs... There's very little torque under 5000rpm, so the car needs to be launched at a really high RPM to get enough wheelspin so it "grips" at 5000rpm without bogging. The S2000 isn't the easiest car to launch, 5.5sec 0-60 is definately not an easily repeatable time.

    Its all very low gear ratios.
