    Default Fishing spots

well fishing season opens on May 9 at some places and May 19 everywhere in Alberta. i for one am looking forward to it. does anyone wanna share their favorite fishing spots? i am gonna try to find spots in the mountains this summer. mine are really no secret so i will post them.

    Traverse Dam
Red Deer river ( Drumheller )
    Bow river ( Carseland )
    Mcgregor Lake
    Bassano Dam

some of these places have bait bans so be careful unless you wanna big fine.

Where's a good place to get Walleye without a boat? (i.e. onshore fishing).

Dixon's Dam is a good place to go.
McGregor's usual catch for us are Pike and Whitefish (though less these days).

I want to head out onto Lake Minnewanka on one of those rental boats for some huge ass trout!

I usually catch alot of walleye at the Carsland canal running beside Mcgregor lake using minnows but there is a catch and release rule for walleyes there.

Traverse Dam and Red Deer river in Drumheller are aslo good for walleye and you are allowed to use bait. limit 3 over 50cm.

Some spots in K country that we goto.

I've caught some Bull Trout (catch and release) at Upper K lakes. They seem to be catchable during early spring (ie. Early May). Can't seem to catch any during the summer.

There's also Elbow Lake (which is in the mountains -- about 25 minutes hike up) where you can catch Cutthroat.

Mt. Loretta pond has Rainbow that is stocked every year.

Take a weekend and drive down to Creston BC, my hometown

Fly-fishing or spinning and casting techniques to catch rainbow or cutthroat trout on The Goat, Moyie or Kootenay Rivers. Fifteen minutes north of Creston are Duck and Leach Lakes, home to yellow perch, whitefish and some of the best largemouth bass fishing North America.

There are many more small lakes, rivers and creeks to try your luck including: Sanca, Kidd,Summit, and Meadow Creek, Boundary Lake, and Bridal Lake.

Over 100 km long and up to 10 km wide, Kootenay Lake has plenty of room for you to try your rod for a Bull Trout (Dolly Varden), Gerrard Rainbow Trout, Rock Mountain Whitefish, Burbot or a Kokanee (land-locked Salmon). You can fish from shore or from your boat, summer or winter

a friend of mine went fishing on the Bow river just pass Carsland over the weekend and said the water is moving pretty fast. But he and a couple of other guys were able to get 7 nice rainbow trouts 30 - 40 cm long over a 3 hour period.

a good place to go for deep water and if youve got the boat is lake koomkanusa, my aunt pulled a sturgeon out of there once, its mostly kokanee you go for, but theres atleats 50 different species of fish in there

when cut open, the rambutan unfortunately fails miserably to deviate from its outwardly testicular appearance, revealing an inside that looks for all the world exactly how you'd expect the contents of a scrotum to look.

Carseland below the Hwy 24 (?) bridge. Used to fish that drift every weekend when I was a kid

Bassano ain't bad, but hasn't been the same since it was renovated in the 80's...

Got out to the Bow river just passed the Hwy 24 bridge by Carsland yesterday and the fishing was amazing. Had bites almost every 5 min but could only hook a few of them. Me and a couple of friends landed 6 rainbows over 2 hours with the biggest one being mine 25 inches long and about 3-4 pounds.

Went to Mcgregor a couple days ago, caught one pike - yahoo

How do you get to Bassano Dam? Do you just go out the Transcanada and go south on the 847?

So i'm a beginner fisherman... for someone with very little skill and equipment.. where should I go? how's the bow river by carseland? I hear there's lots of good fish there? What kind of equipment should I be getting? I got an old fishing pole and some old lures. Oh and do I need a Parks Canada fishing license for that area?

    thanks for the help!

you need an Alberta fishing licencse to fish almost everywhere in Alberta. i Never fish with fake lures becuase I do alot of bait fishing so i just use pickerel rigs with bell weights and usually minnows and or worms as bait. there is bait bans in some spots including the Bow river so you have to be careful otherwise your gonna get a big ticket. Just pick up one of those Alberta fishing regulations magazines at Canadian tire or Husky gas stationsthey are free.

arent walleye's endangered species and you have to throw em back?
morrin (sp?) is a good spot for walleye though.
