    Default Passat R GT

    April 18, 2006

VW shows new Passat R GT appearance package

New York, New York - At the New York International Auto Show, Volkswagen is showing a Passat equipped with an appearance package inspired by the Passat R GT that was shown at the Specialty Equipment Market Association's (SEMA) annual exhibition in November 2005. Although the vehicle was a concept, rave reviews from fans prompted Volkswagen to offer the package as an option on new Passats.

The appearance package creates a racy and aggressive look for the Passat with front and rear skirts with colour contrasting elements, a honeycomb-designed grille, side sill kit, a harmonically integrated tailgate lip, oval-shaped tail pipe trim and 18-inch titanium coloured alloy wheels, wrapped with 235/45R18 high-performance summer Pirelli tires. The vehicle's stance is also lowered with the addition of performance lowering springs. The aerodynamic package improves the car's downward force on the road.

The Passat aerodynamic appearance package will be available as an option starting this Fall.

The 'new' Jetta is the first VW I've ever liked/ would actually buy. Second VW I liked was the Touareg R GT, and now the third is this Passat R GT.

I think I like it because it looks like a Storm Trooper.

This is what it will actually look like:

It is a package that costs $4500. It will give wheels, painted body kit, exhaust, suspension, etc.

4500 for a full OEM kit that is PAINTED (not some cheap fiberglass POS), with wheels+tires (over $2000), suspension (I don't know...probably $1000ish) and an exhaust (I don't know..probably close to $1000+) is not a bad deal at all IMO.

Darn, sorry dudes... I don't normally post the wrongs pics. I don't think I like it anymore. Back to me liking only two VW models

I liked the split dual-exhaust, the integrated turn-signals (which I normally dislike on all other cars), the other wheels (black with the polished lip --- looked good on this application), the open grille with the special badgey thing in it, and all that other stuff. The 'real' Passat R GT there, doesn't look as hot.

One thing I didn't quite get is the 'R GT' thing. I guess since GT-R is already used by other manufacturers?? I always thought that 'GT' models come out before the 'R' models, and as far as I know there is no 2006 Passat GT.

    I've never understood VW guys.

Isn't the Passat for people who think the Jetta is a tad bit to sporty?
