Default NHL: How are the 2nd Round Decided?

Hey guys, I can't believe I don't know something about hockey!

I'm trying to predict this years NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, and looking at the past years there seems to be no pattern as to who plays who in the second round.

For example in the west in 2004 1/8 went on to play 3/6 and in 2003 1/8 went on to play 4/5???

Is there any method as to predict what winner of what series will play who in the 2nd round?

    Thanks

Okay my bad, I was overthinking it. Now that I look at it this way it's easier.

second round decide on season regular seed depends. Seed rank highest faces against seed rank lowest.

yeap so looks like its gonna be a tough road to get back to the finals for the Flames. Dallas looks scary... so does SJ (yes, I'm picking them to beat the Wings)

How are they deciding extra time? Just the continuing sudden death 4 on 4?

yeeeeeeeep. Bettman said something that made me let out a sigh of relief. "There will be no shootouts in the playoffs ever" pretty much.

But doesn't that mean there's a good chance San Jose wouldn't even play the red wing's until the western final if at all?

assuming SJ's the only upset (if you can even call that an upset), SJ plays Det in the 2nd round (1 vs 5).
If Anaheim beats Calgary (god forbid) and SJ beats Nashville, then Detroit would play Anaheim and SJ would play Dallas (as long as they beat Colorado).
If Colorado beats Dallas then Detroit would play Colorado, and winner of Calgary-Anaheim plays SJ-Nashville.
Those are pretty much the all the possibilities (no chance of Oil beating the Wings)

Off topic, but who do you guys see in the cup final this year?
I think DET in the west and i'm on the fence for the east: OTT (if hasek is back) or NJ

SJ would take them in 4......if possible 3 since Detroit won't want to show up for the 4th.

My prediction Dallas vs. SJ will decide the West.

New Jersey & Ottawa for the East.

I agree, I'd give Calgary and Carolina the wildcard though.
