My advice would be to look at what you need it to do.
Basically if you don't play games, or atleast not ones that require large amount of resources for graphics, then it's pretty easy to get a decent one for under 1k.
Want to play BF2 on it, then look to spend atleast 2k.
A compaq 4220 is like $900 right now.
1 GB Ram
100 GB HD
Radeon x200...not great but runs non graphically intense games alright.
IMO that's a good deal.
www.memoryexpress.com
They have dual-core Acers for $1200 and up. Go take a look.

right now i've got a dell insp 6000 so it's doing the work i want to do properly, but because i'm multitasking so much, the duo core is more ideal for me.
i dont game much, so a better videocard would be just a bonus
so essentially i'm lookin for something that has
~100gb hd,
>512mb ram,
~15' widescreen,
dvd +-RW
average to above average video card
