I'm no pro, but I rake my yard really hard to get rid of dead grass and rocks etc.. then fertilize it and about a month later its nice and green. Just don't over fertilize, I did that 2 years ago and my lawn started turning grey Buy Scotts fertilizer I hear you can't screw up with that stuff!

How do you get rid of broad leaves? They are destroying my lawn and spread farther each year.

Well, weed control is kinda tricky. Green Drop does an excellent job (and guarantees it). If you want to do it on your own make sure that you stick to it. Don't use a heavy herbicide, and make sure that you are careful when you are applying so you don't overspray.

Great! I have a large yellow patch on my back lawn (thanks dog!), i never had that problem last year....I raked it, and water it, should I reseed that spot, or can I expect the grass to come back?

Give it about an inch of water per week. Grass is very resiliant. I don't see why you'd need to re-seed that spot.

    ULS does aerating.

    A790: http://www.ulslandscaping.com/ <-- meh companeh!

ULS also guarantees that all services rendered are of the highest quality, and backs this up with what's called the PPB system on our paycheques. Technically, I'm only getting paid $9/hr, + a PPB bonus of 4.50 to make it 13.50/hr. If I fuck up a lawn, the repair cost is taken from as much PPB is needed to cover it, usually about a week's worth. It really stings, so we don't fuck up

As for raking out dead grass, get a grass rake (SHOCK!!) which looks like a solid bit of metal with chunky saw teeth on it. Use said grass rake with firm even strokes, usually about 12-18 inches per stroke, then water the area. If you want, you can lightly overseed the area. The best defense against grass disease is a thick lawn

There are a lot of different types of herbicides. Quite honestly I can't make a specific recommendation, as it depends on your required application.

For example, Green Drop uses a direct injected liquid herbicide that actively seeks out broad leaved weeds, but won't damage the grass.

If you were to inquire about it at a garden centre they'd be able to give you a recommendation specific to your needs.

ULS uses Trillion Herbicide in diluted suspension. I don't know if it's retail available or just for industry :\ But that shit kills anything that isn't grass and has a leaf, so you have to be mighty careful with the spraying.

Yea, I think that's the industry standard for weed control. Do you guys blanket spray?
