Default Loose alternator belt=too damn loud!!

Hey guys, sometimes when its cold out my car starts to squeel very very loud and I think its because of a loose alternator belt. Unless you guys think it can be something else, can anyone tell me how to tighten the belt myself?? I used that belt dressing stuff that you just spray on the belt and it helps for a bit but like the next day the same thing happens again?! I need a permanent fix, and a cheap way too?? Or do I have to get this done by a mechanic??
    Thanx for your guys' help!!

I think there is just a bolt that you tighten to give the belt less slack but look in your service manual to be sure.

there should be a tensioner bolt that you can tighten and it will increase the distance, thus making the belt tighter. that might get rid of the noise.

I had the same prob with my 300ZX

Did you get that belt fixed yet? Like that last guy said, there's 3 bolts on your alternator: One fixed bolt that holds it down, one bolt that you pivot the alternator on, and one tensioner bolt that adjusts the tension in the bolt...really all you need is a wrench and the right socket and MAYBE 5 minutes, out of wich 4 will be to find where the tensioner bolt is On mine it was in the back of the alternator, facing towards the dashboard. Your's shouldn't be that much different. If you need some help or some tools drop me a line or stop by one day when you see/hear me
