Default U of C: Need ECON 300 Level Course. suggestions?

Hey guys, I'm looking for an ECON option (300+) to take this fall,

    I'm currently enrolled in
    econ 341, money and banking,
    econ 323, natural Gas markets

just seeing if anyone has taken any of the other econ 300 level courses. I'm pretty much looking for something that's interesting and does not have a heavy work load (as i'm a CPSC student), but by all means i'm not looking for a gpa booster if the class is going to be boring and wasting my money

PS: I am an econ NON MAJOR

    thanks,

    I did 341 - it's alright.

303 with F. Atkins is a decent course too.... plus his exams are "available" with any sort of effort.

    Default econ 300

Econ 365 with Tracy. Regional economics
it isn't too bad. you have to go to the lectures though. He tests primarily from lecture notes

I took Econ 325 with Schlenker. I don't recommend it. SO boring!

I had 341 with Janko. Although she's a tool of a prof, her tests are relatively easy and are pretty straight forward. Just make sure you keep up with the readings correlated with the notes in class

    I loved Janko,
I don't think she's a tool of a prof, she's really clear at explaining things and makes them really easy to understand.
Her tests were so easy that people did so well that one of my 80s became a B-.
I'd definitely recommend taking a class with her, she's really fun!

Im not saying she was bad. Maybe a little to understand sometimes :P
But she was a decent prof. I got an A in that course, and I honestly didnt listen to any of the classes. Just took down the notes.
Just in case any of you are gonna take it with her..she makes the curve a little higher than the standard one

Zuzana is awesome, good teacher, an even better person and my favourite econ prof by far. If you wanna get in her good books, tell her that I recommended her course!

She also teaches ECON 423 (International Macro) and 759 (PhD macro)

As for other courses, you can try ECON 355 (Canadian Public Finance) with Jean-Francois Wen...he's a dead ringer for Chairman Mao himself. Only fitting that he's a bit of a socialist as well.

Maybe consider Econ 311 (Computer applications in Economics). I took it a few years ago and was one of the easiest econ courses I took. You basically use Excel and do amortizations and other financing type questions. Shouldn't be a problem if you're a computer student.

Wow, I'm surpised you think Hollis is good. I had him for one class, went to two classes and dropped the class because I knew I would do bad. He was so scattered in his teaching and his notes that I had no idea what was going on.

Econ 327 - petroleum economics with macfayden

i loved this class, plus it gives you some more insight to the petro industry in alberta/ the world,

since you are taking econ 323 these courses would tie in nicely together

i looked into them, but all of the 'energy' econ classes are done by schlenker, not a big fan of his exams... if macfayden was teaching it i'd enroll in a heartbeat! but thanks for the input

Didn't think I should start a new thread so I'll ask in here.

Anyone done Econ 527 - World Oil Economics?

I'm looking at either Econ 527 or Econ 355 for Fall semester.

    I did 527 w/ MacFayden.
It was a good class, one of those with limited math, I just remember having to do a long economics essay.
You learn about the history of oil and trends.
I would definitely do it again.
    Is 355 the Policy class?
If it is, I took it w/ Wen and again, not a math class either. More theories.
If its the policy class then I'd take 355 over 527 as it was easier.

355 is Canadian Public Finance. I sat in on one of those classes a couple years back at the beginning of the semester and it seemed kinda interesting but didn't end up taking it. Maybe I'll just wait until school starts and see which one I like better.

You work at Cell-Tel right? Do you work with a Luis?
