Default Car been sitting 1 year, what precautions before turning over?

I'm going to be borrowing an 85 lude as it appears that I've spun another bearring ... (fark)

This vehicle has been sitting a year without it being started, battery is dead.

What should I do before firing this up to ensure I dont hurt seals (assuming they didnt dry out) etc ? ..

    thx!

Remove each sparkplug and put a few drops of oil in each cylinder, then replace the plugs. Remove the coil's main wire (so the car doesnt start) and turn it over for about 10 seconds, this will lube the cylinder walls a little before start, and get the oil pump primed. Then re-attach the coil wire and start er up.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

other than replacing/boosting the battery. (sometimes what happens is a dead/weak battery can hurt an alternator, just like a dead/weak alternator can hurt a battery. It's all on the same circut and when currents change from normal running conditions its possible that one or the other may be weakend from trying to keep up. Sometimes its better to replace both. However I do not know the condition of this vehicle and I assume that the battery is only dead because it has not been running for some time.)

    I would suggest checking/changing fluids.

    checking/refilling air pressure in tires.

Make sure lights are working, specially with cars that sit mice like to eat the wiring, its happened to me before.

    Checking wiper blades.

Just basically check all the little things that can make driving a pain in the ass...

    1. check coolant/engine oil/tranny oil (automatic tranny)
    2. remove the spark plugs and turn the engine over for ~10 seconds
    3. replace spark plugs and start her up!
I wouldn't go replacing the battery right away. youre better off taking it to canadian tire and getting it charged- if doesn't hold a charge get a new one. Saves you from buying a battery if you dont need one

Sounds good guys, this is actually the vehicle I owned/drove before my prelude now. My friend I sold it to still has it.

I had heard mixed opinions about putting oil in the cylinders so I'm glad this clarified it!

I'll let ya know how it goes.

I will boost the vehicle and see if it'll charge after a while of driving. Most likely was the alarm that finished the battery off.

Yup this is the proper procedure to start a car after a while, you might also what to change the oil, depending, the oil is ok but the additives are totally gone for sure. Also be aware of the emergency brake and rear brakes, they could be stuck after sitting for a while, that'll be a shock when you try to stop and they have overheated
