I believe you do. They send you a product key to your email once you sign up for it.

I'd run it in something like VMWare so you can just play with it without messing up your computer.

I am gonna wait and upgrade my memory and video card first. I have been running the beta versions of Office 2007, IE7 and Windows Media though and I enjoy the new looks.

EDIT: Heres the link where you can download a small program and it will tell you what you need to upgrade for Vista.

Yeah, VMWare is a virtual machine program. What you can do is have a virtual OS running on top of your regular OS.

You install the program, then you start it up and create a new Virtual Machine. Within that Virtual machine you can install whatever OS you like. You can pause it at any point, and take snapshots at certain points in time, so you can restore to at different points.

The virtual machine would just be a directory on your hard drive. Won't interfere with the rest of your OS. It's great.

At my work, we have one server with Linux, Windows 2000 Server, XP, etcc running on virtual machines. It allows me to play with a lot of things without acutally doing anything live.

Oh yeah, does anyone know what build this one is? I already have 5384.4, so if this one is the same build then there's no reason for me to download.

    EDIT: Nevermind, it's 5384.4.

What's the difference in Vista compared to XP? Is this the new OS? Is it worth the dl? I'm scared it will screw my system up heh...

Just run it in a Virtual Machine. That way you can play with it and not fuck up your real OS. It is only Beta, so expect plenty of bugs.

VM Ware is not always the best. To have a full experience I would suggest buying a seperate HD and using a duel boot.
