Default Question for you JDM engine knowledgeable...

My wife is getting sick of her GUTless '85 Accord, the thing runs and drives great and has little rust for its year, but she's completely sick of a car that does 0-60 in 5 minutes.

Is there any EASY engine swap I could do for her car (it's the 86hp carburated ES2 engine right now with auto transmission) that would give her more HP?

I know the quick answer is to just buy something else, but other than it being gutless, it really is a great car, and I know we'll get next to nothing selling it, and a "new" used car same vintage but more powerful will probably cost $2000+ after everything is said and done.

I'd rather spend $2G on an easy engine swap on the car since I know it's good otherwise.

Now go ahead and laugh away at me, but any help would be appreciated.

Since you have what sounds to be an amazing car, i would sell it, get quite a bit for it (maybe 1-3k?) use that money and just buy a new car. Doesnt make sense to waste a perfectly good engine thats in there right now.

your in luck. Go grab this months Honda tuning. They have a special section on Rare and unique swaps. Talk about throwing a B20A (stock 3gen accord motor in Japan) 160HP 140TQ In it. YOu have the A20 right now. HT says the manifold will bolt up and your can get a big set of Mikini Carbs for some good power. Wouldn't be surprised if that thing churns 175Hp with carbs, Exhaust, Header lol. That would be a sweet sleeper. Good luck oh BTW B20A is Dual Cam too.

nice! Thanks for the info, I'll have to pick HT up. That would be hilarious, 160 HP in that thing, lol.

Hmm, wikipedia says the A20 was still used in up to `89 for the base models... I would think it'd still work... guess I'll have to search around and find out. that 3geez site isn't loading for me for some reason though.

I had a semi-built 84 prelude motor similar to the ES2, the ET2 dual sidedraft carbed 1.8L. I also owned an '86 lude with PGMFI that put out some impressive power for its year.

Your best bet is to grab the entire ET2 motor from the 1984.5-1986 preludes. They put out slightly more power than the downdraft 3bbl carbed ES2... the intake manifold from the ET2 may fit the ES2 also. However because the car is auto I would not even mess with it.. vacuum lines are a PITA on those motors, and automatic just makes it 10 times worse.
