I just bought a vintage watch that could use some servicing. Does anyone know of a good local watchsmith?

There's a watch repair place in the Chinook Sears. Highly recommended.
Would you recomend them to handle vintage rolex movement?
I really would like to find a watchmaker, as they are usually more willing to handle complex vintage movements.
I already went to a watch repair guy in Market Mall and he told me he wouldn't touch it.
Yes....his name is Joe and he owns the watch repair in Sears in Chinook Center. He serviced my vintage Rolex and Omega watches.Originally posted by CSMRX7

He is a short East Indian guy with glasses....call there before to make sure he's there and talk to him directly. He has been a "top drawer" watchmaker for many years, is Rolex trained and his son owns the most exclusive watch store in Toronto (and possibly Canada) by the name of Solaris Jewellers.
Your other option is to take it to J-Vair Anderson who is one of the two authorized Rolex dealers in town. THey have a good watchmaker there (George) but it will be more expensive than Joe at Sears for the same caliber of work.
Sending it out to Rolex Canada is another option....but the most expensive. I've had some expensive service bills come from them.......

I'm not sure how different vintage rolexes are, but if it means anything to you, that's where I sent my Rolex (though I doubt it qualifies as vintage). And it's not the first Rolex we've sent there.Originally posted by CSMRX7

I sent mine off to go get some springs replaced and it came back fixed and polished. It's never looked better.
Well,
I'll give him a try. It is 1940's movement so its a lot different than modern watches, but hopefully thats not a problem.
Thanks for the help
