They ought to be, at least partly, from the public money that goes to rebuild the saddledome every 10 years, and the new arena that will be built for them within the next 10.

City owns the dome. Name change help revenue. Flames is a tenant. If the tenant doesn't like what they see, they'll move.Originally posted by barbarian

Simple as that.
Wow what a suprise... Toma hates the Stampede...
Move to N.Korea ffs and stfu
Its the history and heritage of our city and the west.. why the fuck do you live here if you hold so much contempt for everything western?
I am sure the thousands of tourists who flock to Calgary for Stampede spending hundreds of millions of dollars is a real burden on our city..

There are huge costs associated with organizing an event like the Calgary Stampede.
- The organizing staff and it's executives need to get paid.
- The cost of bringing in the vendors and Conklin.
- There is a huge insurance risk they pay for.
- Paying the entertainers. Performers like Nelly Furtado, Our Lady Peace, Theory of a Deadman, and Kenny Chesney don't come cheap.
- Paying for labourers during set up and take down.
- Organizing the parade.
- Maintaining the grounds, casino, racetrack, and stadium for the other 51 weeks of the year.
- Joint projects with Tourism Calgary to promote the city and the Stampede.
The bottom line is that yes, the Stampede pulls in a lot of money, but a lot of money also goes out. Just like any other business.

I thought I heard something about stampede bringing in over a million tourists to calgary... they've gotta be leaving a bunch of money in hotels if nothing else.
And the running and maintaining of the Stampede Ranch.Originally posted by bigboom

what a stupid thread... heaven forbid a BUSINESS makes money...
"Make Canada a better place, punch a Canuck fan in the face" - Jim Rome
Kenny Chesney wasn't paid by the Stampede, it was a concert people paid to go to at the 'dome I believe.
Some facts and figures.. off my head..
The grandstands alone brought in over 800k (if I remember right) in beer sales last yr, and sold the equivalent of 600 000 cases of beer or something crazy, just in the grandstands!.. But the system they use for that cost them some money, not near that but a bit.. The amount of booze that goes thru that place is unreal.. The taps hardly close at some points, they just keep putting new cups under it.. Coyotes, 10 bux to get into the fenced off area over 10k people came thru in one day last yr, of course they didn't all pay, but thats just admission, not any of the drinks.. Ceilis, they can sell 60 kegs in one night, one keg is 120 pints, at what 5.75, 6? a pint? thats 40k in one night off beer sales alone.. These aren't this years numbers, just things I have heard in th past.. and then theres cowboys, you've seen the tent there,
Stampede also pays staff all year, some of whom I'm not sure why they keep around, as the times I stop in around there I never see them doing anything.. And where do they get all the vlt's and tables for the big 4? they must be rented from somewares, they were all leaving on trucks today....
In Tomas vision of communist Canada this would not be allowed.Originally posted by SOAB
