Should be ok. Just be gentle with it untill the next fillup.

The ECU I think changes the timing to suit the gas (if you reconnect the battery the ECU will reset/adjust faster)

If you have tonnes of pings mabey add some octane booster

Edit* Also, your friend might get a CEL. It should disappear on next fillup.

What's the engine size and the compression ratio? Most cars don't need premium at all. But people like to think it makes them faster.

no knock sensors. the odd time will not harm things..just lay off the WOT and highway till you refill

Its funny how many people think that!
"Ill put in premium this time. My sunfire is hittin the races tonight."

hah, most dont know that in an engine that is designed for use with regular unleaded, premium is actually harder to ignite, hence its popular use among high compression vehicles to avoid early detonation.

Yep unless it's high compression/turbo, it most likely won't do anything, except make your wallet a little lighter.

no . the reason it asks for premium fuel is the retarded ignition timing . closer to TDC before spark .

i would not put regular in the car again . sure the knock sensor may pull some timing, but i would not rely on it .

*note: if your car asks for regular, use regular. if it asks for premium, guess what?

if your sunfire is "hitting the races" for real where its going to see extended high rpm action/hot temperatures, mid grade or premium fuel isnt a bad idea, hotter engine temps, more likely to detenate.

although if your races are just secret street and your only making a few runs, then yes.. youd be retarded
