    Unhappy Boost leak??? Help please

I hoping one of you could help me. I drive a Ca18det silvia, the other day i took it down to secret street, and found that i was running waaay slower then i expected to. In fact my best time was when i turned my boost controller off, when im at full boost (11psi) i can hear a screaming whistle of air and my car seems to be running slow. In fact my buddies have commented on just everyday driving that my car feels slower then it used to. Im wondering why this could be, ive heard that these cars have notoriously weak turbo gaskets could it be that?

I still make full boost fine, but have noticed that it is fluctuating slightly, i only hear the whistle at full boost, could it be leaking from my blow off aswell? (i have a greddy type rs, real greddy not a knock off) I checked all my vacum lines on the boost controller and they all seem fine, any other ideas? I would really appreciate any input that you guys have. Thanks alot.

Oh and my starts etc were not thaaat bad 0.07 with a 2.03 60ft was my best and the time was still staggeringly slow

How much power do you make and what was your time?

Your reaction time does not affect the final time at all.

It's unlikely that the BOV is leaking if it did not leak beforehand. Just do a boost leak test, takes 10-20 minutes and will answer all your questions. When I found my boost leak I shave 0.5 of a second off my 1/4 mile and it wasn't even that bad.

    is it stock intercooled?

Check all your couplers. especially right before the intake mani.

I had a leak right before there.

Are you just a terrible driver?

not thaaaat terrible a driver, it sounds more like my turbo gasket from my research so far, i can hear more of a flutter at high boost then a whistle now. Seems like a good excuse to pull the turbo and slap on a bigger one though.

You need to build a boost leak tester, serious simple to do. Buy a pvc cap from home depot or where for like 2 bucks and then clamp it on to the end of the intercooler piping that meets with the turbo. this will essentially give you a sealed system. Blow compressed air into the charge pipes and if it holds there are no leaks, if it does leak you will find it in a heartbeat and should only cost you 5 bucks or less.

SSQV not leaking? dare you dream, hate to tell you but any BOV can leak, in my experiences almost everything and anything on a car is built to fail eventually.

What else can you do if you don't have access to an air compressor and compressed air!? (as stupid as that sounds, I live in an apartment and I think my 1jz motor has developed a boost leak somewhere).

another way to do it is to get ether, and spray it on each pipe, coupler, around the motor, while its running. if the idle fluctuates after you spray a spot, you found your leak

build the same tester and hit up a gas station because the fitting uses a schrader (sp) valve you can use a tire air chuck to fill it...

what kind of clamps were you using to hold together the intercooler piping? I know years ago when I wansn't using t-bolt clamps it seemed like I was always getting leaks from crappy clamps breaking after getting worn near the intercooler.

thesmackdown - if that's a question for me - my answer is "whatever they use stock"

I'm really unfamiliar with this motor (1JZ GTE) so i'm really lost with trying to do anything myself on it...

But hopefully with some of these suggestions I can pinpoint exactly where there is a leak if in fact that's what is going on with my motor. I just hope this weekend pans out to be okay weatherwise.

Well I know some people make the mistake of using bad clamps on intercooler piping which can make leaks frequent. The clamps they sell at crappy tire/part source etc are not exactly what I would call strong clamps. I use t-bolt clamps on all my intercooler piping just because they are way more reliable.
