want some info on who's hiring if anyone knows.
I'm fairly new to Calgary so I don't know who

I always wanted to try car sales. Do you think being a car enthusiast helps or hurts you in this field. I only ask because whenever I have gone to a dealership, I always know more about the car than the salespeople.
yes it can...Originally posted by Rollin'

Depends. Being a car nut also means you hate some makes. If you happen to get a job at a dealership that you hate, it can be bad. If you work for a company that you love, it can help.
Enthusiasm is key. If you're enthusiastic about the product you're selling, that enthusiasm will rub off onto the buyer.

the thing with car salesman tho, you dont have to be "knowlegable" to be successful. You just have to be good at selling. Thats what I usually see anyway.
I've been in sales for years and with a dealership for almost two years, you just have to know how to talk and listen to people. Some food for thought is domestic car sales generally pay higher than imports but imports sell more vehicles per month.Originally posted by Team_Mclaren

Does anyone know how the wages work?
Is there a base salary then commission on top or is it purely commission?

Most dealers are commision only. You usually get a tiny car allowance and commision is on average 30% of the profit in the vehicle. Most dealers also have a flat rate for cars ,sold with very little profit. Generally there are bonus for total gross or units sold.Originally posted by dieselpower91

Interesting, thanks for the info. 30% of the profit eh, Im wondering how many cars (say $30,000) you need to sell monthly to stay afloat.
Depends what yor bills are and who you work for. Where I work if you sell 6-8 a month you will make a good living. Keeping in mind you can make anywhere from $30,000-$140,000 a year depending on your ability.
Renfrew Chrysler is always hiring everytime I read the classifieds.
Honda West seems like a good place to work the people are extremely nice, I got a job there a while back but wasn't able to take it.
