Hey guys, I heard that engineers can get cheap insurance through APEGGA? Any merit of truth to this? Thanks.

Yup it's true... I got the discount... I'm not sure what the exact discount would be for your or how much you'd save. For me, I used to be with ING direct and was at 294 a month. Once those government insurance changes were put into effect, I went down to 194 a month (21 at the time). When I found out about the discount after I graduated, I switched over to TD Meloche Monnex which handles the group discount rates for APEGGA, my rate went down to what I'm currently at , which is 126 a month (I'm 23 now).
I have the same policy as i did with ING coverage wise, but with a few added extras. TD calls it the grand touring solution, which basically adds a free rental for you while your car is getting fixed and a few other perks, which I don't know off the top of my head.
Give them a call and see what they can do for you.

Fuckin' !
Thanks guys, haha maybe I'll be able to afford a car after all
you can get insurances with Meloche Monnex if you graduated from a Unversity too
Yeah, another nod for Meloche Monnex... ING was about $500/yr more for same coverage.
I have my own policy but my dad is with Apegga and I somehow get all of his discounts on my policy, it's awesome.
My best quotes have come from TD insurance and 'The personal'. You can get a quote from them online, if you are interested.
After they overhauled the insurance in Alberta in 2004, the Apega group rate isn't that great of a deal. I used to be a real significant savings, like 1000$ a year, now it's only a few bucks a month. Not worth your dues into a pointless beaurocratic institution.
^^^ The primary reason you pay professional dues isn't for a discount on insurance. Most engineering jobs require that you are registered with APEGGA.
Besides, APEGGA dues are very low compared to what other Alberta professions pay, and most companies will pay your dues for you.
Meloche Monnex always quotes me atleast $1000/year more than what I currently pay for the two vehicles in my "what I drive", nice discount. I have a clean history and very few companies want to insure me for some reason or they want $5000 - $7000 (MM always quotes me at $4800, quote has not changed in 3 years). I don't get it but I will stay with State Farm until somebody can beat them.
$1200/yr for an 18 yr old with a coupe FTW!

$90/month thru meloche/apegga for full coverage on 06 WRX
And my company (and most others) pay my yearly dues.
Same as me but I'm $90/month for a 05 GMC.Originally posted by Aleks

...I just wish it was a WRX.
Meloche monnex for me too. I was with AMA paying almost 1200/mth for my piece of crap 95 4 door sunfire. I switched over monnex last week and am now down to 748 including collision. I do get a discount for being 30. You also get another 5% for switching your house insurance over.
Furthermore, they don't charge a finance charge/interest for paying monthly.
Also, you don't have to just be APPEG or whatever. They list many universities that you can be alumni of.
Another + for Melonche Monnex w/APEGGA discount.... Always had the best rates compared to other companies and the more you get insured with them the better the discount..
For a house, 3 cars 04 Mustang, 05 Escape & 06 Focus, all together we pay like $200.00/month approx for everything.
33 & 25 year old, no tickets or accidents.
