I saw the APEGA has a new insurance partner, does this mean we're going to lose our discount with TD? I know TD has a group discount with UofC, but I heard it's not as good as the APEGA deal.

I did an online quote with the new partner and it wasn't any cheaper that my current rates.

I assume TD will grandfather existing for a year or 2 to avoid a mass exodus. I was curious as well.

Don't just blindly believe the TD APEGA discount either, they were not the cheapest for me, so YMMV. Get multiple quotes. Most insurers have professional occupation discounts too.

FWIW when i dropped my APEGA membership, i called TD to tell them and get on teh UofC group rate and my rates did not change much. I think it was < $10 / yr difference for each home and 2 auto polices

I get a UBC alumni discount with TDMM and I've just about had enough of their increases.... I'm just wondering if every company in Alberta has raised their rates this year...

My rates increased for no apparent reason either as far as I know. Not with either if these companies though.

Left TD because even with the apegga discount it was hot garbage.

APEGA and anything they touch is hot garbage. Their annual fees are extortion; I would gladly ditch my P.Eng if my company stopped paying the fees for me.

Truth! I came T...H...I...S close to dropping mine, but I need it again. I think the new company will pay for it too. I made em pay my SPE, which I actually need too.

I like the cell phone plan. I also don’t hate TD Insurrance as much as everyone else on beyond, haven’t ever had anyone offer me better pricing and their service has always been good.

Will agree that as a professional association they are an inconvenience at best.

    Fairly unrelated... But...

Did anyone catch the former UofA instructor (not Prof because he didn't have a PhD) going off on APEGA on LinkedIn all the time within the last year? Like, constantly!?
    What a hilarious train wreck!!
Name rhymes with Kurt Stoutt and TL;DR is he quit filling out annual CPD because he figured that would teach APEGA a lesson for poor handling of the CNRL fatalities about 12 years ago. *WtF!!?¿
Eventually gets caught and kicked out for refusing. Seemingly perhaps continues to practise and certainly continues to use protected title. Gets reported randomly for unauthorized use of title because of constantly spouting off on APEGA. Goes on RAMPAGE smear campaign of APEGA and old man yells at cloud "Orwellian Speech Police" nonsense posts on LinkedIn. Tries to figure out who "ratted him out" and make their employment life difficult even though he has no idea who reported him and cannot and never will, because it simply could be ANYONE. Brags on LinkedIn that he'll go to court to protect his right to "free speech" to call himself an Engineer. Everyone's tells him - you're cracked.
Goes to court to fight for his right to call himself ENGINEER because reasons. Obviously loses. Claims his legal bills were "the price of free speech" as if he won. Continues barrage of gibberish on APEGA posts except those written by a person he was literally ordered in court to no longer address.
Changes his name slightly on LinkedIn. Seemingly finally shuts tFU and fades into obscurity.

Go ahead and look this shit up. It's a soap opera of hilarity!

Yeah, he made a mistake I see more often in younger engineers. He conflated "being right" with "choosing the right action".

I agree with some of his criticisms. Can't agree with his methods though.

I see what you mean, somewhat. With the piles and piles of legit things one can gripe about APEGA, choosing protection of title (which he benefited from for decades) when he feels it doesn't suit him anymore is berserk.

Even if that's his chosen battleground, "old man yelling at cloud on LinkedIn" was never going to do anything but make him look foolish.

It's not a long trip for him to get to foolish, though. I know multiple people who describe him as their "48th favorite prof" that they had during their degree.
It's some pretty skewed logic to state "I don't need to fill out CPD hours anymore because I'm unhappy with how APEGA handled the tank collapse fatalities at CNRL". In essence, that's what started his bizarre journey.

I'd never heard of him before he went crazy. But yeah, he went crazy.

So basically the new partner is more or less a wash with MM right now? What about coverage or is everyone more or less the same across all insurance? I can get preferred through Marsh with work but I've always had great service with MM, like exemplary
