Why would they join the army then? They knew before hand they were going to go to Iraq. It probally wasn't a surprise to them.

Tell you what, how about YOU pay for them. I'll be happier not supporting bums, assholes and drug addicts.

I can see dodging a draft coming over here but leaving active duty is just coward, a disgrace. Nobody point a gun at you to go to the military. If you worry about wars and still want to serve the people, just go serve in police or fire department.

If you choice military career, prepare to do something you don't want to do.

    Send them back.

If it were a draft, I'd say "come one, come all" but in this case I don't want a single one coming across the border. If you volunteer for the army you had better be prepared to do some ugly things.

And besides, if they really wanted to make a loud point, they'd serve their punishment down there, getting as much publicity as they can get, don't run away, make their objections heard. I sure as hell don't want to pay for them.

"Pvt. Anderson said he supported the war at first but changed his mind after he was ordered to shoot at a car speeding toward his checkpoint in Baghdad. He held his fire and saw the car was carrying a family with two small children.

I did the right thing because they were innocent, but my superior said I should have fired anyway," Anderson said. "Right then I decided I'm not going to fire my weapon unless I absolutely have to."

    I support these guys.

Maybe you need to go to Iraq or Afghanistan. Every person in both countries know that you dont try to run/speed towards a checkpoint or any military vehicles.

The ROE's (rules of engagement) is to shoot at shit like that. Im sorry but standing at a checkpoint or being in a vehicle and someone is speeding at me, you try to wave them off, then you fire warning shots into the front of the car and if they still dont comply you shoot at them. Sorry but being under constant watch for terrorists driving at you with a car full of explosives or IED's (which are 90% of the time impossible to see) , I would choose to save my own life or friends Im with .

And yes Ive been there (twice), as well as various other places.

They signed up for the military, they knew about the war, and now they are scared so they run like cowards. They are deserters, and should be punished accordingly. If they were given a unlawful command there are avenues to have it sorted out. That was not a unlawful command.
