Default How much is Vancouver to Vancouver Island ferry?

    Hey all,

I'm going to Qualicum this weekend by the looks of it and need to cross that little pond in the middle.

The Windows Live shit *took over mappoint i guess* says I need to take the ferry, I've never been that far in BC so I dunno if there are bridges or anything.

Anyone know how much it is to cross over? I take it its a car ferry as well as passenger?

Anything I should know about this trip before I head off?
It will be a non-stop hopefully, co pilot and me, onyl stops for gas, food will be at the gas stops, pissing will be at the gas stops maybe an odd stretch sleeping leg stop.

Says its around a 1050km trip, but 14 hours???? Wtf are the speed limits out there that makes it so long?

Anyone travelled recently, hows the construction out there?

    Thanks In Advance

here is the link for the schedules/fares to BC Ferries

    http://www.bcferries.com/

You will have to go into Horseshoe bay and take the ferry to Nanaimo, then drive to Qualicum beach....

There are lots of diff places to stop and fill/up stretch your legs along the way....

    Good Luck on your trip!

There are places on the TransCanada that can get pretty slow as it goes down to one lane and snakes through the mountains. There can be lots of semi traffic that slows things down too. Also, part of the quoted time is probably based on time on the ferry. While I have been lucky enough to time it so that I can virtually drive on the ferry, there have been other times where I have had to wait for over an hour.

Just google BC Ferries to find their site and check out the prices. Its not cheap!

Yah not cheap but it aint too bad.

Only about $150 both ways + people + the bimmer.

Leaving here in an hour should be a fun trip.

Its not 14 hours. To vancouver, following a 110 KM/hr scheduale it takes under 10.

Alot of the mountian speed limits are 60 and 80 because of the turns, but if you drive something more then a raised jeep you can safely take them at over 100.

My record trip to north vancovuer is 8:30 1 stop for gas in the middle.

    1 stop for gas?

Lucky guy, I estimate probably 3-4 each way, stopping for gas, at $100 a tank , should be an expensive but fun trip.

I used to drive there 6-10 times a year, my average was 10 hours from Calgary to the ferry terminal going fast where I can (Kokahala highway), and taking it easy in the twists and turns. If you can, drive on a tues-thurs, least amount of motorhomes on the highway.

Well Im leaving in about half an hour so hopefully no motorhomes.

Splitting up driving between me and a bud. I will get us out of Alberta and in through the mountains as quick as I can then he takes it in BC as he knows more about it then I do.

Theres some pretty wild driving in the mountains. I got great weather on my way back this spring and I was railing the corners at much enjoyment. DEFINITLY watch out for wildlife in the real windys before and after golden. Ive seen too many mountian sheep and whatnot there.

Fillup in calgary, fillup in revelstoke and I made it to burnaby after that. Afterall, I do drive A civic.

Ive driven out other times going really fast, and not fuel effiecent. Had to fill up twice but still had 1/2 a tank once in vancouver.

Keep to a normal speed and start some conversation, makes time fly

Not much to know about it, just stay on #1 until you hit Kamloops, then turn onto #5 (Toll highway, just in case you didn't know, but well worth it)

I'm assuming your staying in Vancouver for the night? If not you'll be lucky to get on the last ferry.

Obviously you've never been there Kokahala is 110, as is the Island Highway.

I think Allgonoshow left before he read my post. lol, guess he'll find out about the last ferry sailing when he gets there.

There is some construction in Banff, but no big deal & you will probably be slow just before Golden as they are building some major over pass.

After that, it is smooth sailing to Sicamous. (That is as far as I went)

    Enjoy

Was a good trip overall, well worth it vacation and people wise.

Didn't go through as much gas as I thought I would have, could have done it in just over one tank if I wasn't in such a rush.

The ferries screwed me up bigtime, thought we were half hour early for the ferry and it turned out it already left.

Made it to Van city in just under 10 hours, don't know about the rest of the trip.

Was pretty harsh on the old bimmer though. Brand new headlights = Cracked, Foglight = Hole rihgt through the lense, golf ball size, seat twist problem finally happened, and the heat fucked up the tranny fluid *thats what we think so far* and now the tranny is shifting all wierd, I guess 35+ driving at 150+ steady can do funny things to fluids.

    Thanks for everyones help!

You won't make the last ferry.
