    Default timing belt? how much

My timing belt busted on the way to banff and now my car is stuck up there and the mechanic told me its gonna cost about $400 to do it, is this the going rate? I dont know what to expect but it seems a little high, im probably just going to go ahead and get it done though.

A timing belt is about 90-100 for one from honda. And then should take about 4 hours labour.

Lets hope you did not damn any valves when the belt broke.

indeed ^^^^ a snapped timing belt can mean alot more than 400 smakers. I hope you got off easy. Im not sure on hondas specifically, but my timing belt was $25 and it took at least 4 hours to do.

    Just go ZC....

I paid for 2.5 hours of work when the timing belt was done on the 1.5L dx and when it was replaced on the zc it was free.

Your looking at $1000-$1500 for a zc swap soo $400 into that engine isn't worth it, is it?

A timing belt is NOT 20 dollars. It's more like 100 from Honda, and that is the only brand i'd use - that oem crap isn't reliable.

To replace a timing belt might be one thing, but the real problem isn't the belt...it's more than likely you bent some valves or caused some other damage...that's what i'd really be worried about...it may even mean a new/rebuilt engine in some cases, but at least it gives you an excuse to upgrade..

$400 seems pretty high in my opinion....

I did the belt and water pump at Honda for about the same price.
