    Default whats that noise?

ok im currently looking at cars to buy and i test drove a 99 prelude today and when i get the car over 70 km/h i hear a buzzing or humming sound from the back as if the tire is rubbing on the wheel well or something, i know its not the wheel touching the well but have no idea what else it could be . should i bother bringing this car in for an inspeciton or just foget about it and look for another car?

I think you should always bring a car in for inspection if your looking to buy it. Just covers some stuff that maybe the buyer doesn't even know. JMO

Yeah, people buy cars, don't get them inspected, then something goes wrong and they blame the seller. I'm not saying that'll be you, but 00civicsi is right.... the seller doesn't know everything that wrong with the car. Most times though it's not the things you can hear/see that are your biggest worries, it's the stuff you can't that'll come back to bite you.

    Sounds like a wheel bearing.

well before i ever buy a used car i will need to get it inspected for piece of mind but in this case i already know there is something wrong, just dont know if its worth to pay for an inspection if you can already tell there is something wrong.

Does it get louder as you drive faster? Most likely the wheel bearing.

If you do decide to buy the car without an inspection and want to find out if it's the wheel bearing (and which side) really easily, find an open (and wide) stretch of road and drive around 80 and just steer left and right a couple of times. If the sound goes away and comes back as you steer...ding ding ding, wheel bearing.
Say you steer to the left and the sound goes away, that means it's the left wheel bearing that is in trouble since when you steer to the left all the weight of the car gets shifted to the right and takes pressure off of the bad wheel bearing making the sound go away (Run on sentence FTW).

You can get an AMA 200 point inspection for 100 bucks.

The more points the inspection = the better = more money however.

The best inspection is the inspection at your shop. I got an inspection at a shop with guys I knew, it paid off.
