    Default First DSLR Camera

So I am looking at getting my first dslr camera, will probably be hitting the eBay route with a budget of up to 600$CAD

These are some of the models that caught my eye in that price range:

    nikon d50
    canon 10d
    canon d60
    olympus e500

Any tips / advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Canon 10D for under 600?

Whatever you buy, don't get Olympus.

I think it's just a older version of the 10d

    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneosd60/

    without the

"magnesium body, orientation sensor, Adobe RGB color space, Kelvin selectable WB, ISO 1600 and 3200, more flexible image parameters and a new 7 area AF sensor"

you can probably find a canon rebel xt for a little more than your budget. I've seen them go for $750 and that's with the grip. I've also seen used D70's for around the $500 mark. Check out the buy and sell forum on fredmiranda.com.

go play with all the cameras that you're talking about and get a feel for what your hands like. Since you don't have an investment in glass yet, you can pick just about any of them. Canon and Nikon are much more prolific though so it makes finding used glass much easier.

The D50 would be an excellent camera man, lots of features and adjustability. I ended up getting a D70 b/c it was used but was going to get a D50 new

I would recommend the D50, it's excellent value for money and is compatible with an incredible amount of lenses.

Lenses and other accessories, if you want to expand you collection of lenses you are going to be hard pressed to find a lot. Whereas with Canon and Nikon you are going to have large selection as well as other manufacturers lenses.

Pretty much sums it up. I'm sure Olympus will produce more lenses and accesories down the road, but for right now it's pretty slim.
