Default Tell me about tripod heads

I'm looking for a cheap tripod head to mount to a bar of aluminum tubing to use as a camera mount inside my car to take video, something like this:

I have a Canon A610, does it matter what kind of tripod head I get, is it one size fits all? Can you recommend me a good store where I can pick one up?

The camera store is a good place to pick a new head up. From what I have seen there are 2 different standards for screw sizes. For the most part the one on your camera is the smaller one and is typical of most cameras.

Try to find one used on ebay, you'll probably get a much better price on a used one.

Check out an Ebay store called "Amvona", they have really cheap knockoffs of Manfrotto equipment, sold under the name "Dynatran"

If that link doesn't work, search for "ATH" within the Amvona store, that should give you all the tripod heads.

tripod heads range from a few bucks to more than 400 for something like the acratech. the more expensive ones are designed for heavier loads. since this is going to be a car mount, i'd suggest getting something solid like the Bogen/Manfrotto. If you are planning to mount a small camera for autocrossing, i suggest this is the way to go.

Go down to Saneal camera downtown. I picked up a Monfrotto tripod and head for like 260 I think. And a ball head seems to be the most versatile.

Read again dude. I think the head was 80 bucks. 260 was for both.

Here is the one I picked up, it's really great and has a quick release should you ever need it
