    Default Real or Fake GTi?

My friend went to test out a VW Golf Gti...

Checking over Ben's Gti, there were quite some differences.

    1) The seats did not say ricaro...They said "Gti"

    2) The engine did not have DOHC 16V on it

    3) It handled like ass and was slow as fuck.

    4) It did have a momo steering wheel though.

Do they come with two different trims or something?

By the way, it was a 1990.

    okay, there are 2 GTI's...

the common and slow 1.8L 8V's and the rare 16V's

    1990's had 2 choices, 1.8L 8V or 1.8L 16V (100hp vs 123hp)

the 16V's had recaro seats and BBS wheels.

1991 and 1992 they intrduced the 2.0L 16V with 134hp/133tq (Canada got the 2L in 89, but there are like NONE around, so basically 91's and 92's only, and 1992 was the last year)

My car is an 87, which came standard with the 1.8L 8V 100hp 10:1 compression motor. great little bomb proof engine.

My car has since had the 2.0L 16V dropped in, 11:1 comp, cams chip, I/H/E and the full Recaro interior out of a 92 GTI popped in, so its not exactly in its original stock form. My car also had a euro front end conversion from the single square lights to the dual rounds. (late 16V's had this grille)

The momo Champion wheel is after market of course.

Chances are you drove the 1.8L 8V gti.

Also, was it a 4 door or 2 door, no GTI's were 4 door.

Did the steering wheel have a GTI stamp on the horn portion.

Very, like I said, they brought the 2.0L into Canada in 89, but its RARE!!!!

The US got bent over by VW in the late 80's early 90's

They didn't get the 2.0l 16V for a couple years after Canada, and they never got the 95VR6 corrado, only Canada got the 500 shipped to North America.

They also never got the MK1 2dr GLI jettas

Interesting.....I've *Heard* that there were only apx. 90, '95 Corrados shipped to Canada, seeing as there so rare, i figured this number to seem accurate, i guess 500 is still pretty damn rare.

2 or 4 doors is the main give away...not 100% sure if the sunroof was standard on ALL gti's, but I'm pretty sure they were.

Yeah, GTI's had the 10:1 Comp ratio 1.8L, most golfs had the 1.8L 8.5:1 comp ratio.

not all of the GTi's came with sunroofs, most did but not all. check for the gti logo on the door trim and I think that they had 4 wheel disks as opposed to the drums on the back of the reg golf. also the wheels should help to give it away, if they are still stock!
