    Default Offroading for beginners

I just got some A/T tires and kind of want to try some off roading.

First let me state I have no experience with this whatsoever! The last time I tried to go off the road out in the country, i sunk into snow and the people in my car pushed me out hahaha.

Anyway, now equipped with proper tires I figure its time to try it out again. So just some questions, I don't really want to damage my tread to much, or damage my vehicle, so should I wait until it snows? Or try it out in the mud.

Secondly, does anyone that has never done this before want to try it out? I don't know really where to go.

    Thanks for your input.

what tires did you buy, that will determine what type of offroading you can do, and how serious you are.

And please don't tell me you offroading in you pathfinder... you can pick up a decent beater offroader for 2-5 grand depending on what you want. and have tons opf fun beatin the shit outta it rather than out of you 30k dollar SUV.

looooooool. I bought Toyo Open Country A/T's.

As much as I would love to buy an offroad beater. The first problem is I only have 1 parking stall. The second problem is I have other priorities I need to spend $ on instead of a second vehicle... so I figured maybe I could have a little bit of fun.

I mean, I don't want to beat the shit out of it, I just want to do like... light offroading?

off roading is pretty damn hard on your truck. Esp the newer ones that aren't build to go offroad as much. Buy a less expencive truck. Im selling my 95 Pathfinder for $5500 if your interested.

I'd recommend getting in touch with one of the local clubs, and joining them on a run (which is almost always encouraged for prospective members).

Yea, I want to do that but I am scared of getting stuck on a trail. Will probably hit it up once it snows.

well if your going to go 4x4ing and your scared of getting stuck just get someone else with a 4x4 to go with you, that way they can hopefully pull you out or they can give u a ride back to some place. or maby consider investing in an winch especially if your going out by yourself. and if ur gona wait untill winter that is only gona make things wetter and slipperyer so geting out of a mud hole will be twice as hard. Mclean creak is a good close location, wyapras is not to bad but many limited trailes, indian graves and dutch creek are relly good places to go to like mclean. Have fun!
also how many inchs are those new toyo's u bought?

Go down to waiprous and hit the gravel pits for a bit to get the idea of what offroading is like then if you feel good then head out down the road and pick a trail. (make sure its a truck trail though, you will know because there are orange diamond signs with a pic of a jeep with no top on em.) Good luck.

FYI I am pretty sure the gravel pits are restricted for use now too. Since the whole GAMP thing. Pretty much all the trails left, a stock pathfinder can do. Very fun for rookies and nice views.

a friend and I took our stock 4Runners out to McLean Creek in the summer for some trails. It was really fun, we didn't want to do anything too hardcore, but sure got the trucks muddy

But yeah, people tend to look at you kind of funny when you go out there in a newer SUV and play in the mud amongst all the quads, lifted trucks, etc.

no i don't think so, I detailed an F350 that goes off roading a lot, and the only defects caused by offloading were caused by the guy going up a hunting trail that was too narrow for his truck (car got pretty scratched up, because of branches...not dirt).
