    Default sr20det Tuning

So im relatviely new to the field of engine managment and tuning.
    I have a 91 240 with a redtop swap, hks bov and a full 3' exhaust
next spring I was thinking of upgrading injectors, fuel pump, sparkplugs / lines, and getting a fmic
As well - getting a new ECU
So whats the deal with ECU's, I see piggyback ecus, standalone ecus, re-programmable ecus... etc etc.
Whats the difference between them all?
Whats the best for my sr20?
I am interested in the DIY megasquirt ecu's as they are only 200 dollars american and you assemble them and everything yourself... but then im sure you have to tune it which I have even less of an idea what im doing!
Can any fellow 240/silvia owners help out?
    thanks
    Ryan

    run a emanage piggyback

i know ca18 guys who can pull 240hp out with a t25g and minor mods and a good tune. thats what i am doing

don't go with pre programmed ecu's, you can hit better numbers with someone actually tuning the car

If you want DIY, PM xcye, he can create a daughterboard that accepts external eeproms. Then you can do your own tuning via datalogging. That's the cheapest way to go. Not sure if he still does it, but you can give him a try.

No doubt, my freind has a daughter board from him, with minor mods and its pretty slick.

I agree except for the Greddy Emanage (too dificult) I prefer the Apex i Power FC + commander, plus it includes a sport tuned setting from apexi for you to start tour tuning from, and easy to go from street tune to race tune with the commander.

i have heard good things from the power FC but the emanage is a bit more affordable for just an easy tune. but if you have the money, go with the power FC with the controller

Emange is easy as pie, i have it on top of my enthalpy ecu. Wiring is simple and the fact you can kind of change your ignition timing with it is nice. I know a lot of people that say its crap BUT when you see guys down in aussie land running 400+ hp cars on them well they must do something right.

The big plus with emanage and SAFC is that you can resell them for a little less than you pay, with tuned ecu's you are usually screwd. My experience with the emanage thus far has been nice, the anti-stall feature is open BOV friendly for our motors It is an easy system for someone to use without needing a tonne of knowledge.

Most standalones require knowledge, lots of it, and then loads of tuning. Proper tunes are nice since you'll see bigger numbers but 10-20hp isn't going to make you a million times happier.

A big on that, which is why I'm gonna get Toma to pass on some knowledge when I get the SAFC this winter. and hopefully some of the knowledge will rub off!

^ yep ie: Greddy manage, Apex'i powerFC, some others. Piggy back systems also work, when you make modifications you cant adjust it.

So, something like a greddy emanage, would that be so-so for a sr20?

I personally prefer the Apex'I powerFC because it has a controller that allows you to tune it for yourself, and allows for future modifications and on the spot tuning for things like race gas, hot days, extra or less boost. But it is like $400 more than the emanage.

Haha, i have the power fc and the controller blows chunks hard. If you get the power fc and dont get the datalogit...you might as well have just gotten emanage imho.
