Default Grinds Into Third After Second?

Hey guys, 02 civic si with about 92,000 k

it just started doing it the other day....when changing from second into 3rd it will grind going in...sorta seems like clutch isnt engaged all the way....Now if you are at under 4k when shifting it rarely does it..but if your over that, it grinds....

when your moving i did acouple tests...i was going about 90k....pushed the clutch in and held it in...Put it into second, then into third...and it still grinds...but from any other gear and then into third it never grinds..doesnt grind into any other gears....Do you guys think, tranny problem, clutch problem, tranny fluid problem?....

Im gonna change my tranny fluid asap n see if it works..but what do you guys think?

Sounds like a synchro problem too...you can try changing the fluid but most of the time it doesn't help and you'll need a new tranny.

if it only does it out of 2nd and not any other gear I would more think a problem with the shift forks not the snycro's have you tried double clutching? if it goes away when double clutching then it could be syncro's but if not then it is likely forks or fork alignment. if it starts doing int in other gears well then I would say your clutch is getting worn out

if it does it from 2nd to third @ high rpms, i believe thats a honda thing, it used to do it in my prelude, both my accords and my buddys accord, high rpms 2nd to 3rd

My winter beater celica does that, I started double clutching and that prevents it. Your synchros are worn.

Very common problem with most manual transmissions.
Syncros are easily replaced and parts readily available.

be verycareful if it grinding do not use the gear, get it fixed asap i had that exact problem in 4th when i was on a road trip keep usiing it and ended up breaking a tooth off my 4th gear! rebuilding was alot of work instead of a little! and yeah double clutching will work but seriously just get it fixed save tons of anguish

No way you need a new transmission, i'd say check fluids first then hit up synchro if that doesnt work

Its specifically your syncros, for now limp around in the car, power shifting worsens the problem.
There is unfortunatly no quick fix for the problem and eventually you will require a new tranny you dont get it rebuilt.

Luckly for you, you can go to PYP and pull a new tranny, they are cheap.

compare the cost of a civic tranny to the cost of replacing the synchros and you'll see why its cheaper to buy a transmission than it is to replace the synchros
