Default Japan Car enthusiasts coming to Japan

With lots of people interested in JDM cars, why not get a bunch of people together and come over to Japan? I'd be happy to help and arrange for some places to go and stay. And, I could take you to some auctions (no stings attached) and show you some car places.

Sounds cool, I'm on my way over.
I'll need clean sheets and suki-yaki beef on sticky rice. It better be sticky.

I'd like to go there once I'm done with university. I'm sure it's a nice place with lots of culture, but I'd go only for the autos Visit some of the top garages, see local races, buy some rare parts, and maybe even bring a car over from an auction. That would be crazy fun!

But for now I'm a student... and I don't even have a car anymore

If you could do it for that cheap I'd go in a heartbeat :P

I don't think that it would be for less than $7k for 7 days.

I'd absolutely LOVE to go back, but then me and Hampstor would have to come up with the money and the time off work that corresponds with eachother's schedules. Pretty difficult nowadays.

Wow, that's way too much. Here is what I was thinking:

    1. flight-- (depending on the time of year) $1300 from Alberta
    2. hotel--(business hotels or budget hotels are very clean and comfortable) $90/night --cheaper if sharing
    3. travel around--
----go to Kyoto for 2 days-- $300 for travel and sightseeing
----go to Tokyo for 2 days-- $400 for travel and sightseeing
    4. food per day--$25
    5. spending money--$40 day (depending on your spending habits, may be more--like buying electronics or beer)

So it all depends on how long you'd come over. I suggest no less than 10 days. If you come for 10 days, the trip would cost about $3500. Actaully, it could be done for less, but that's an average budget.

If you're good at budget travel, then staying at Youth Hostels is an excellent way, and you can get a Japan Rail pass that would save a heap of cash too. So, as I said, $3500 would only have to be the high-end budget.

    . food per day--$25

I love thr food too much to spend that little. When I was there, I spent more than that a day, and I had accomodations paid for

Do I save any time, money, or hassle by purchasing a car for myself while I'm there? Is the process easier if I were to go to Japan and pay cash, handling everything in person?
I would be very interested in buying a car directly from an auction, especially if I had someone as kind and knowledgable as yourself to help me with the process. The reason I don't own a RHD drive car is because I refuse to purchase and own a vehicle without being able to see it and visually inspect it with my own 2 eyes.
    However, I'm dying without an FD3S, S13, or HCR32...

I already have funds to travel to Japan, and purchase a vehicle, but I'm stuck in school for the year. This would make for a really rewarding adventure to purchase my next car

actually his numbers aren't that far off
for around 60-70 bucks a night you can crash in a capsule hotel. not recommended for larger beyond.ca members but a real trippy place to spend a night or two.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsule_hotel

25 bucks a day for food is not too far off either: you can usually get some cheap Ramen for 4-6 bucks... ahh Ramen

2 years ago I got flight tickets outta Alberta to Narita (Tokyo) for $1100. $1300 is not that far off either.

3500 is doable if you watch yourself and have a local around to show you around. And just as long as you stay away from Soaplands in the bigger cities. I've heard some places Roll foreigners.

Whats a soaplands and roll a foreigner? What does that mean?

The flights are wayyyyy cheaper if you buy very far in advance, if you buy as soon as spring comes around or only a month or so before you plan to fly, the price more then doubles.

Ok, remember I said this is average prices. I know flights can vary, but you don't want to come in the summer because its way too hot.

Soapland is for bad boys to go and spend some quality time having naked Japanese girls (or other nationalities) wash them and do unmentionable things just for money

Eating can be cheap if you're not out dining at expensive restaurants. It all depends on your eating habits.

SO let me get this straight...
for 3500$ or so you would be willing to arrange a trip with dailiy activites and tours ect. as well as scout out some car auctions for us to go to while there.

Renting a car is about $100/day, and that's for a mid-sized one. If you want to drive around Tokyo, you'll need a couple of things: 1. an English map (you can get them), and 2. a good sense of directions because the streets don't run north-south and east-west like in Calgary/Edmonton. The streets around the central part of Tokyo were purposely made winding and curvy so that it made attacking/invading the Emperor's palace much more difficult.
