I installed new brakes and rotors recently on the Corolla and when I brake at low speeds say under 20 kms/hr the brakes will squeal. Its almost unbearable in rush hour traffic when the windows are down.
Any ideas what to check?

has this just been since the crappy weather? My brakes have been squeeling too but I think it's just all teh moisture on the roads. I don't know what kind of pads you put on but I know sometimes they'll squeel for the first bit as they sort of break in (the top layer wear off...)
A mechanic also told me once that cheap pads will do that but I'm not sure if that's true or not...good luck with it.
Did you break your new pads in properly? or try some Anti Squeal stuff?

Hmm.... I haven't been driving the corolla as much lately, but any tips on breaking in the brakes and I'll probably look into the anti squeal stuff.
I got the pads and rotors from Auto Value and I paid more for the higher quality ones

if the edges of the pads aren't filed down or rounded that can cause new brake pads to squeal
Plus the use of the anti-squeal will quiet the brakes downOriginally posted by twincharged86
