P28 is the actual Ecu. P28 is from the 92-95 Civic type si. Only ecus that are Obd1(1992-1995) can be chipped for uberdata and hondata. Uberdata and hondata are essentially he same thing expect Uberdata is free. Its free because you can have someone local Chip your "p28" ecu with a socket and then the tuner can use Uberdata software to burn a program on the chip for your car. Hondata costs money because you have to send them your ECU for the chipping or buy one hondata chipped. I think thats how hondata works. But Go with uberdata no fucking around.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."
-H.P. Lovecraft
You CAN chip other ECU's... but p28 is the most versatile, as it can run all vtec engines. You can also run a p30, or just check what ECU you have, and get that chipped. Pm one of the guys in rage's tuning thread... one i know of is richardchan

Unless you've got a lot of bolt ons, tuning won't make a huge difference. The stock ECU is pretty good.
But for tuning, your best bet is to get a chipped P28. No matter what type of Engine Managment you go with, the P28 is what you'd want - It's the cheapest and most versatile ECU and has all the functionality you'd need for your type-R. It'll work for Hondata/Uberdata/Crome, except with Hondata you'll need to buy the Hondata hardware as well.
I think I actually have a chipped P28... PM me if you're interested.
^do the p28's have knock??

No I think the p30's do though.

Nope P28's don't have knock. In my opinion, knock is pretty useless especially with turbo/modified cars. It's not going to save your engine from exploding if it's not tuned properly.
