i think its good to get rid of indoor smoking, but not being able to smoke on patio's is fuckin retarded
Legal action would be a waste of money at this point, as noted in the article. It takes over a year for anything to happen, and by then it'll be 2008 where the new bylaws come into place aynways. They gotta save money on all the business they're gonna lose.

this already happened in edmonton and despite all the outcry from business, things are just fine. there may be an initial decrease in business, but you dont go to a bar or restaurant to smoke, you go to eat or drink. that will still be offered. you will just have to take you smoke break outside.
ya thats one thing that i never understood. went to Roadhouse for Stampede this year, and well we couldnt smoke outside (we were there during the day and they had a patio set up) but we could smoke inside?????Originally posted by rahim

I don't disagree with you but many people would. I know smokers who think that drinking and smoking go hand in hand at the club.Originally posted by hjr

I love it. now i can go to the bar and come home NOT reakin of smoke
contrary to rumour, the end of the world will not happen when smoking is banned.
I can't wait to be able to go out and not smell like an ashtray when i get home and not cough up a lung while im in the bar.

Exactly. Even so. Its not like they can complain that they will lose business considering everyone will be on the same playing field.Originally posted by rage2

Bars in Los Angeles, Toronto, Winnipeg... dont seem to be suffering.
this has already happened in Edmonton. They are just as busy as bars in Calgary. And it is so nice coming home from the bar not stinking of smoke.Originally posted by hjr

Calgary is behind the rest of the civilized world.. This was done in Ontario years ago and as pretty much everyone else has stated, it's not the end of the world and businesses will be just fine..
It's about damn time.
fuck i was hoping it would of alteast held off untill half way through 2007 fuck this sucks shit
when cut open, the rambutan unfortunately fails miserably to deviate from its outwardly testicular appearance, revealing an inside that looks for all the world exactly how you'd expect the contents of a scrotum to look.

In a few years everyone will wonder what took so long for it to happen.
As a smoker all I can say is:
WOO HOOO!!! it's about bloody time. Maybe now I can quit for good! I had quit fully when I went to Edmonton, but when I moved back here I started again. -Pretty tough not to get a craving when you're drinking at a bar with a facefull of smoke.

"Even in California and Vancouver people can smoke on patios."
totally agree with this. i will stop smoking for a bit but once i hit up a bar, and there is smoke everywhere its hard to keep the craving down.Originally posted by kevie88

Why? You can still smell it on a patio, plus patios would be PACKED with smokers, no one would be inside. I don't want to smell it whether inside or out.Originally posted by rahim

Why? Are you going to stay home because you can't smoke?Originally posted by rage2
