will shampooing everyday cause your hair to fall out?

i read about a week ago (on a reputable website, mind u) that it was a myth and a load of bull, so i tried it and as i'm gelling my hair this morning, a whole bunch of hair gets stuck to my hands.

i'm kinda worried, that's never happened before

I wash my hair every day with shampoo, and no issues yet. My father is bald

Maybe if you use no-name shampoo? Hair falls out all the time, the only time you should be concerned is if your hair doesn't grow back fast enough. If so, look into rogaine or propecia (but not if you have to submit to drug testing or you'll get busted like jose theodore).

Anyone notice that homeless people always have lots of hair? Maybe there is a corelation.

I heard that shampooing and then blow drying will dry your hair out and decrease the lifespan of your hair because you wash the natural oils out that keep it lubricated? I use gel and hairspray and to not shampoo everyday makes my head feel dirty. But usually after showers, I just let my hair dry naturally and don't use blowdryers. My dad's 65 and barely has any grey's, maybe I'll ask him what's his secret and hopefully it's in the family genes.

I heard a rumour that head & shoulder causes it. I know a few people who have used it their whole life and they are almost bald, so they switched and it started to get better.

Could be placebo effect though.. *shrug*

hair loss is directly genetic and really nothing more. It has to do with the hair follicles not getting nutrients so really, not shampooing your hair would do more damage than shampooing. However, 95% of hair loss problems are directly correlated with genetics.

    heavyD, I also noticed that!

It's not just head and shoulders, ANY cheap shampoo will do it. I used shitty stuff for most of my life, and started going bald very quickly at around 23, then I changed to a high quality shampoo/conditioner and I my hair hasn't changed since I was 23, no new growth, but no excessive loss either.

being a woman I wash, blowdry curl, straighten every day sometimes twice. I wish some of mine would fall out. My hair is so thick I can't let it naturally dry it would take all day. I also use oily hair shampoo all the time, I totally abuse my hair and it's very healthy. It's natural to lose hair everyday. If your not brushing or combing it during the day you will lose the most in the shower while you are scrubbing.....

If your worried about hair loss go buy some Nioxin shampoo.

That used to be my pickup line several years ago and worked like a charm.

Me: "Wow, I see you every day in class and you have the most beautiful hair. What shampoo are you using?"

Her: "That's so sweet, why don't you come over tonight and see for yourself?"

Shampooing on a daily basis wont make your hair fall out neither will "cheap shampoo" shampoo is shampoo its all passed before they can sell it on the market. Shampoo strips your hair of its natural oils so does blow drying, curling etc.... The oil protects your hair... They actually say not to wash your hair on a daily basis or use a mild shampoo.... Even treating your hair too much with conditioner is also not that good becauce it suffocates your hair... but ya i guess everyone has a diffrent opinion.... depends who you talk to.

It really depends on your hair. If you have oily hair, washing it everyday is probably a good thing. If your hair is dry, letting go a day or two without washing is it probably a good idea.

It's true about Head & Shoulders. My dad used ot have thick hair when he was young, he started using head and sholders and it started thinning. He is now 44 and barely has any hair left (obviously he stopped using it asges ago).
