Default synthetic motor oil. how long between changes?

i usually change the oil over 5000km's. but i haven't got the time to change the oil the past few week. i'm at about 6000km's since i changed the oil(mobil 1). i have might have to make a trip to calgary and back this friday. sooo....... should i be ok with the old oil? cause i hear synthetic motor oil is suppose to last atleast 10 000km's. right now i really don't have any time so i'm thinking waiting till mid august before i change the oil. maybe i'm just paranoid or something.... who knows.

I change my mobile1 every 5000km, but I've heard that it's the oil filter that is really needed to be replaced. I mean that the oil hasn't 'broken down' yet after 5000km. So it's the oil filter that really is the determining factor, I think.

I don't know if you can get a bigger oil filter and change less frequently.

I'll never use synthetic oil anymore. I changed my car over to regular oil and I did not know that it was getting synthetic from new. Now it burns But I have another engine anyways

Synthetic oil does not break down thermally like conventional oils. However, it still needs to be changed at the normal suggested intervals because dirt and other partical will accumulate in the oil.
