Default how to tell your boss to shove his speaker phone up his ass without getting fired?

something along the lines of this thread http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.p...hreadid=151294

my boss's office is about 20-25 feet from me and he uses his speaker phone for everything. of course, he sits 2 feet from the phone and insists on cranking the speaker volume up so everyone in the area can hear what's going on. One time i was minding my own business and daydreaming when i hear the dial tone and him dial an extension. 1/2 a second later my phone rings. i swear if i had line of sight i'd throw something at him. he did this to one of my co-workers who works beside me and he just hung up the phone without saying anything and walked the 10 paces into his office.

So how do i convey to him that every time i hear the dial tone coming from his office i get visions of strangling him with the cord without getting fired or charges pressed against me?

PS i hate speaker phones with a passion and everyone who uses one outside of a conference call.

I think every single person in our office uses the speaker phone except me... you can always hear like 15 conversations going on

I wish that whoever invented the speakerphone would have had to have been subjected to it's annoyance.

    Speaker phones suck!!!

Is he a hard ass? If not, talk with other co-workers and everytime he speaker phones them, get them to not answer and just walk to his door for the conversation.
Like most dogs in training, he SHOULD get the point!!

i think this is something that he's learning in eMBA school. The only people that I know who use speakerphones like this have MBAs.

I swear all management uses speakerphones... my boss did all the time and it drove me NUTS since I usually had something quite private to say all the while he usually had people in his office. Even though I asked him to please pick up the phone in the name of privacy.. he wouldn't

Long story short: I stopped picking up the phone or calling him regardless of the importance; he got the message really fast

have a friend (girl) call him saying she is from his doctor's office and that his std test came back positive. That ought to bring the volume down a bit.

I use my speaker phone but I'm in an office and I always close the door when I use it.

Whats wrong with speakerphones. I use it all the time. It really helps when you need to be on the computer/jot down notes/flip thru files whilst talking to a client. Of course it would be super annonying if it were a cubicle envirnoment, but why not just shut your office door?

I hate it when people check their voicemail on their speakerphone, or carry-on important conference calls with the volume up and the door open. This is usually so everyone else can hear how important they are talking to the important vice-president or CEO, or how important they are because important people leave voicemail for them.

The solution for this is to get some audio of an intense gay porno, and leave them a message during the evening from a payphone (if you can find one of those anymore).

By the way, people in cubicles have no business having a speaker phone, and people in offices ought to shut the damn door.

heh, that reminds me of a prank that someone played on a friend of mine once... made an mp3 of some dialog but intentionally set the recording level really low so my friend had to turn the volume way up to hear it and then then at the end of the mp3, at the normal recording levels it's someone yelling "I LOVE GAY PORN"... heheh.. hmmmm i might be on to something here

edit: the prank, not gay porn

I use the speaker phone for internal calls. If somebody I don't really like talking to calls, I put them on speaker phone just to piss them off. It's a little harder to do with external calls because we don't have caller id on incoming external calls (only front reception has it).

Hm... I use speakerphone quite a bit, it's so much easier to multitask with it. I try to close the office door, but I'll admit I do forget sometimes. I usually have the volume pretty low though. I dunno, I hear other speakerphone use in the background sometimes but it's never really bothered me. Or if it does.. why not just close the door?

edit: ok, I guess if he's your boss you can't just close the door to his office. Nonetheless, that's a very effective and not very offensive way of letting someone know that their speakerphone is intrusive to other people.

This is much easier than calling the phone and waiting forever for them to pick up. I don't understand my boss though, haha he's in the office next to mine and if there's a call for him he doesn't want me to tell him (since he can hear me at a normal voice level), he wants me to call him on the speakerphone. It's pretty weird.
