All those shots in the article were time lapses up to 30s.

I've seen storms in my old backyard in Calgary (Riverbend) where the aurora stream literally disappeared into a void in the sky, like watching a river. The severity isnt that intense for us right now.

Tonight has been wild. Captured with the iPhone 5S so not too great in quality. To see this in person was insane. Brightest, and fastest I've ever seen. Too bad I didn't have a better camera on hand.

Was just out past Springbank just now and there were some pretty decent flare ups. Wish I didn't have to work tomorrow so I could have ventured out further away from the light pollution.

    Default Aurora

If anyone is up (11:50 pm) take a look in the sky. There is a huge auroral display. It's covering the the whole of the northern sky. Pretty spectacular.

It's really going for it now, 1:00 am. You can really see the movement in it.

What are the best spots to check this out? I tried to see it last night but it seemed too cloudy in NW Calgary. Last week I drove out to Cremona to try and see it when I got a red alert, but same issue.

Anywhere out of town honestly. North of cochrane is nice and close. Mountains are always good

I like heading east - lots of dark, big sky prairie and side roads along the #9 towards drumheller

We usually go about 5 miles east of Balzac and 2 miles north - quite dark and not far away for those in the north end. Farm land with no houses within 2km, Airdrie is over 6km away and Calgary is behind you when facing north - township road 264 and east of range road 290, couple miles of gravel though for the sissy cars.
    Will fuck off, again.

Is that a picture timelapse of video? Looks awesome.. man, now that it's summer you have to stay up so late (midnight or later) to see them or else the sky's still bright Too late for me haha..

I went out to big hill springs provincial park last night about 12.30am, You could see it but it wasnt the wild green color that I see in the photos. However I took a long exposure photo on my phone and all the green stuff showed up. I guess it just wasnt going as good as it could be.
