I use the touchless wash at the Husky on the corner of MacLeod and 42 St and I think it's one of the best washes. It would be hard for me to do a better job in that time span, plus I stay warm in the winter.

The only spot that the wash has a hard time cleaning are the side mirrors. Aside from the that, the car is sparkling clean.

Speaking of car washes, is the "Panada" car wash for sale or going out of business? (the one on Macleod S), close to Back Alley

Yea, that wash isnt that good. Wandwash ftw. I personally like the Western Pride Car Wash on Richmond Road just off 37th street. Also has an interior shampoo and vacume deal there, which I will have to do this weekend

This is basically all I use to wash my ride most of the year. I'm not sure why you'd be creating some swirls. Were you using a microfiber wash mitt and drying towel?

It's also important to gently drag the wash mitt accross the surface, with very little pressure, and no rubbing. I do one panel at a time. I've washed extremely dirty vehicles with this process before, and was surprised how well it worked.

Is Optimum No Rinse better than Quick & Easy Wash? I think so. Why? Slightly better lubricity, finish, etc. I'd still use QEW in a crunch though - great product.

That's what I do whenever it's below zero. Spray it down with soap, spray my mitt, wipe it down, rinse, dry - works great. I bring an MF drying towel too. It's tricky spraying off the mitt once in awhile with such a high pressure wand, so I leave the wand in the cannister it normally sits in, hit the trigger, and a nice foam sprays out the other side. Woot!

This is what I do late at night when no bay attendent is around.
Bring a bucket, a wash mitt and drying towels.

    1) Use pre-soak and go all over the car, under the car and wheel well ~$1-2

    2) Use soap and blast all the loose dirt and such that the pre-soak has loosen up. Throw the mitt in the bucket, and fill the bucket with soap or water. ~$2

    3) Use the foam brush, and apply a thin layer of foam all over the car. DO NOT SCRUB!!! ~$1

    4) Then use your mitt and scrub the car.

    5) Every now and then rinse your mitt in the bucket that you filled previously, so you are not scrubing with any dirt that you picked up.

    6) Use rinse, and rinse the car throughly ~$1

    7) Use wax and/or spot-free rinse after if you want.

    8) Dry the car.

    Question.

Since you guys are all talking about washes. How do I get street tar off? We took a trip last summer to the states, like 5 or 6 hour stretches in the car. It was over 40 and run through some street repair. I haven't wanted to even scratch at it.

Any ideas on how to get it off without scrubbing and screwing up the paint?

Sorry didn't know that they actually sold something called Tar Remover, I just don't want to screw up the paint. I haven't used a brush on the car not even a microfibre rag. Old bedsheets are fantastic. I know some people that bought cheap micofibre and it made the same sort of marks that the car wash brush made.... now they have a car full of little circles!

Gotta implement a vigorous waxing schedule, like every other 2/3 times you wash the car.

Don't touch your car with anything but a quality wash mitt and preferably a microfiber drying towel. Never use the brush at the car wash, or go through a mechanical wash.

Don't brush snow off your car.

Keep your paint protected - a quality wax every three months or so should do the trick.

That's an insane amount of waxing considering I wash my car twice a week minimum, do own stocks in Mcquire's or something?

At most you only need to wax every 2 months unless you live in an environment that has acidic rain.

LOL in the summer, I wax my car after every wash. It's actually quite stress relieving and it takes about 20 mins.

Meguiar's is a privately owned company or else I would own lots of shares. I have at least $900 worth of their stuff. About $200 in M16. $50+ in M21, $50+ in M20....the list goes on.

"At most you only need to wax every 2 months unless you live in an environment that has acidic rain."

It really depends on what kind of wax you use. Turtle wax ice is gone by the 1st wash. Waxes like collinite and M21 last a very long time. Eagle one nano wax is gone in about 4 weeks. I have had M21 on my car for about 5 months and it's still holding. Collinite says their wax lasts a full year, I might order some to try out as I own almost every Meg's product.

But back OT, I am going to take my car to the touchless once all the snow and slush is gone. Then I'm going to strip down all the layers of wax, remove any swirls that I might have inflicted over winter, and put on a fresh base coat of M21 topped with Gold Class.

I just use Mqguires 3-step every 2 months, I know the wax from that will last up to 3 months, because when I got lazy this winter, I noticed after 3 months, the salt started sticking to the body a lot more than usual... thank god for that +15 day we had in february
