Guarantors are not allowed to charge, but a Notary Public who signs in lieu of a guarantor can charge. At least that's my interpretation. There's a special form that you get from the passport office for them to sign.

Professionals are not allowed to charge to sign your passport as a garuantor, it says that on the application.

I think, if you don't know a professional, you have to have someone to swear your oath, or something like that, some kind of professional witness -- sorry if i don't know the term, but there is a process.

There is a place that does it accross from the harry hay's buidling.

the professional witness would be the Notary Public. I'm not sure if a Justice of the Peace can do this also or not.

i remember asking someone at the passport office if the no charge law applies to this case also and the response was 'no, they can charge you for it'

    oh - ok.

I think then they must not want someone charging you for it, because they'er supposed to know you well -- well enough that they shouldn't charge you for it, at least.

All i remember is that when i went to get my passport there was a place accross for harry hays that had a sign saying they did it, and there was a woman in front of me in line who didn't have a garauntor and they told her to go there.

I think you just swear and affidavit and they witness it. But i'm not sure.

guarantors (legally) have to have known you for 2+ years. kind of difficult when you've only been here for 11 months
