Default 16 year old killed in self defence

Not sure if this is a repost, but I couldn't find anything.

What do you guys think about the guy killing the 16 year old kid for trying to rob him?

I'm glad that the couple wasn't hurt, and I'm also glad that the thief didn't get away with robbery. but killing a 16year old for trying to rob you? that's a little excessive don't you think?

I hope the guy defending himself and his girl don't get charged with anything though

Not enough facts available on this one for me to form an opinion yet, it just seems strange all around. May be excessive or it may just be that he happened hit the right spot. Sad for the family of the 16 year old though regardless of the circumstances.

Why didn't the couple stay at the crime scene though, that's kindof weird. Also, why the hell didn't the "friends" of this guy help him, wtf?

On the radio this morning they said the 16 year old was trying to rob them AND threatened to sexual assault the guys girlfriend.

If it was just a robbing it would seem a little excessive. If he did threaten rape, he got what was coming to him.

Now there's a story with a happy ending. Attempted robber gets killed? Someone pass me a box of tissues...

    NO WAY!

For the sake of argument, and i'm not saying it is, but ASSUME everthing happened as is being reported.

If somone comes at you with a knife or any weapon, and tries to assault you in any way, there is an implied threat to your life, NO RETALIATORY action is exessive. By pulling a knife and saying "Give me your wallet" the knife means "or i'll kill you". By carrying a weapon as an instigator of violence, you've completely exhonorated your intended victim of murder if he kills you in self defence. The victim shouldn't have to wait for the robber to stab him, before he can stab him back, we're not the UN here.

The intended victim in this case, just happened to be carryign a weapon of his own. Perhaps this is a reason why we need to allow licenses for concealed handguns in Alberta.

Remember, i'm standing on the assumption that this was a straightforward attempted robbery by a complete stranger, with no provocation.

No, it's not excessive. It's justified. The fact that the police/crown have decided not to charge the victim with murder is probably a good indication that the punk who got killed had what was coming to him.

One less dick roaming the streets and robbing/raping innocent people.

maybe robbers will think twice now about who they rob..........................and ya i dont think it was excessive if i was with my girl and somebody tired to rob me i would be on the ground before he got to my girl if he could. simple as that.

i was watching BT this morning
and they said that the couple was walking home
when this 16 yr old came up to them with a weapon
    and tried to rob them

they havnt released the couples names
    they dont know the weapon
    and
yeah what happened to the guys friends?

obviously the kid wasnt alone .. he had someone there either watching him do it , or daring him to do it.

I think its all gang related
the kid was tryin to be cool and wanted to be part of a gang
and that could have been his initiation....

    who knows..

but thats messed up... stupid kid

    ah well

I hope I'd have the balls like this guy to do what he did when faced with this punk. I read something this morning that said the robbery victim pulled out his own pocket knife and stabbed the kid.

    Good riddance!

The guy did us all a favour and protected many citizens that could have been robbed in the future. If only this would happen more often, Calgary would be a safer place!

If the story is true, it must have been a deadly hit to some vital organ. Usually, wouldn't the mugger back off if there is certain resistance. It would be a bit unusual if the mugger got stabbed several times, didn't back off and then bleed to death. I guess we'll find out.
I would freak out too if I seriously injure someone regardless of the reason. That could be the reason to the couple taking off.

This reminds me of that Seinfeld episode when George tried to impress some gang by robbing Jerry's parents.
