you can't transfer an Operating System, you'll have to re-install the OS on the new HD. You will have to re-install your programs as well.
Basically went it's all setup, you can then setup your old HD into the slave drive and copy all your info. Then re-format it to clear everything off it.
yeah the kits to make internals externals are like 20$ at www.memoryexpress.com (which is a place in calgary too)
If you can put both HD's in at once, then install partition magic on the existing hard drive, copy the partition to the new drive, then expand it to fill the drive.
Swap the new hard drive to be the primary master and the old to be the primary slave, then use bootcfg /rebuild to straighten out the boot record.
This should be able to do it I think. There are lot of other programs out there to copy partitions that should work as well.

Norton Ghost should do the trick.. there's several other programs out there that can also do this such as partition magic, but I know Ghost works with Windows XP/2000/98

btw .. if your keeping your old harddrive .. why not just use the new one for space ? ... and just keep the old one as it is
