    Default Wii defect?

I've had my Wii for almost three weeks now and everything was fine, until last night.

Put Wii Sports in and it said it couldn't recognize the disc. So I eject and put Zelda in, same problem... on the tv, it just shows a Wii game disc and a gamecube disc spinning and then the error message saying it couldn't recognize the disc.

Tried to reset, power down, disconnet the power, but nothing worked. I called Nintendo this morning and I should have a replacement hopefully by next week.

I'm just curious to know if anyone else has/had this problem?

That problem has been widely reported. Believe it or not the PS3 has had fewer reported problems than the Wii even though the Wii is basically a Gamecube with a chip for the gyroscopic control.

Might also have to do with the fact that the wii has sold 3x the consoles as ps3.

It's like you're intentionally trying to put Nintendo down.

well 3x as much as the ps3 is not judgable

since the ps3 is more expensive, and it onlyh have very little shipment compared to the nintendo wii. If they had the same amount of shipments id say ps3 would not lose to much to the wii, even tho the console is double the price of a wii

Iam saying that the wii has sold 3 times the consoles, so of course they're going to have more issues whent hey have more systems out.

Not really. Nintendo hardware is usually bulletproof. There are lots of reports of failed PS1, PS2, Xbox, & Xbox 360 consoles but not many if any of N64, Gamecube and even the older ones lasted forever. I was actually quite surprised about how many Wii's were faulty at launch.

Maybe try cleaning your discs and the disc reader for the wii, I use to get that same problem on my xbox, but cleaned all the stuff and it was good to go.

Oh I see, like crankwalk in 2G DSM's...because so many were sold it's really a small percentage, but based on the units sold the numbers seem larger than they are huh??

They send you a folded up box to put the wii in so they can get it back and test it for problems

I think its time to go back to flash based media for games. Flash is dirt cheap now and can be had in many gigabytes. Seems like all optical media game systems fail sooner rather then later as the lazer has a finite life

Yup, my replacement Wii will come with the packaging and labels to ship my defective Wii back to Nintendo.

I tried it again last night, and it still gives the "unable to read" error...

Then I put in some Gamecube games in, same problem. I've been hesitant to put my gamecube games in, worrying that it would get stuck in the slot load...

that sucks dude. Heard of some faulty manufacturing issues nintendo was having. Theres been the usual defects and other oddities. Some how a batch of demo wii made it out and they only play demo discs and there was supposive one batch that never didn't finish the manufacturing process and don't work out of the box. The latter two are suppose to be an extremely small percentage of the systems.

Haven't really seen much reported for defects on the PS3... but then again i bet most or still unopenned waiting to be sold on ebay

lol when nintendo has to send out another unit because one goes defective people call it great customer service

when microsoft has to do it, people pull on their testicles till they pass out

    you guys are funny

It's called equity theory. Customer inputs over customer outputs = company inputs over company outputs, ideally. When people pay more, they expect more - it's perceived fairness.

I'd be waaay more choked if I had a faulty $500+ machine than if I had a faulty $280 one, so even though both companies take corrective actions, one will be better received than the other.

And don't even get me started on Sony.
