Default What is a good weight for a hanging punching bag?

Like the title says, What is a good weight for a hanging punching bag? I want it to be heavy enough to provide resistance to fairly hard punches and kicks, but not be so heavy that it barely moves and feels like a rock. It should be heavy enough that a good kick will make it swing about 4-6 inches. I'm assuming that bags in Canada are sold in pounds just like in The States. If not, just tell me the weight in kilos and I'll convert it to pounds.

Would nonstop punching and kicking a bag be considered moderate or vigorous exercise?

Probably a 60 - 80lb bag should be the place to start.

I've got a 60 lb bag and it swings around quite a bit. Non - stop punching is really tiring if you go like 2 or 3 minutes. Make sure you also get some gloves or wraps or else you'll mess up your wrists.

Basically, when I'm talking about swingin, I don't want to have to wait for it to stop swinging after every punch or kick.

How would a 75 lb bag be? I can get a 75 lb bag with a stand (which I need) for $150

I've seen one that was attached by a bungee to the ground and it was super fun. It could test your defense skills aswell when it comes for payback on all the beatings you laid on it

^^that might not be a bad idea. Even the 100lb bags swing around quite a bit if you don't have anyone to hold it for you.
Its not the hand you're dealt it's how you play your cards.

So... apparently the jury is still out on this one. What is a good weight for a bag, based on the requirements in my posts??

How big are you? My bro uses an 80 lb bag and he hits pretty damn hard. It does swing, but only a few inches, not very far. He's 6'2" 200ish... so I guess adjust according on that, but as I said before, you probably are looking at a 60-80lb bag.

That's if you're 11-12 years old. Wavemaster by Century started those stupid things... If you "must", got with "TKO" (that's the name of the company; btw)

I have a standing one already. I want a hanging one.

I'm about 5'6/5'7 with a pretty average, although slightly large bone and muscle structure. I'm not weak, but not incredibly strong, either.

Is 75 pounds a good weight?

If its hanging its going to swing, you need someone on the other side to hold it.

i agree with project240 60-80lbs is probably what youre looking at. unless your looking to use it to practice leg kicks. you might have to get something heavier not sure if they make long bags at that range. if youre just punching that weight is MORE than enough. make sure your wrap your hands.

Pretty sure mine is only 75 and it's fine. Punch against the way it's rocking - punch once it moves away, but hit it again as it's swinging back at you, then again - almost holding it at a slight angle. More than most people need.

You can also get a bungee that ties the bottom of the bag to an eye in the floor which prevents the swinging by quite a bit.

That's not sweat. It's your fat, crying.
