I think if I saw someone wear those space shoes I'd smack them up side the head, for looking stupid.

LOL so then the speed limit in the left lane is also 100km cause there is no such thing as a fast lane!

the speed limit is the same, but its still the lane for faster vehicles...also known as...the fast lane.

Ok well call it what you want just as long as no one is trying to say you can go faster than 100 in the left lane.

Except that at multiple locations along Deerfoot there are those swell white signs (which means it's manditory) that say "Slower traffic keep right". If you should happen to see my headlights getting larger very rapidly then it just stands to reason that you are slower traffic and you should keep right.

Now, here is my follow up to that. I'm an A number 1 bastard about not passing on the right and that slower traffic should keep right. I will sit on your bumper until you move, and I situate the car such that if you decide to be clever and slam the brakes I will hit you in a manner that will push you in to traffic while putting me in to the wall (which is the safer place to be). However it usually only takes one tap of the brakes before you figure out that I don't have any problem hitting you.

If I am particularly irritable that day, and my sense of schadenfreude is in it's full glory I will, after copious tailgating and instillment of fear, pass on the left get in front and slow to exactly 100 KM/h, or to your speed (in case you were on the phone and doing 80) just to see how you like it.

In fact I was on my way home the other night at around 1:00 in the AM, merrily making my way, in the left lane, at a leisurely 165 KM/h when I see grandpa in his Buick Regal putzing along at 120. I let of the gas about 1 KM away from him and at about 150 m he puts his signal on to change lanes. "Oh goodie" I think to myself. Then he veers back and hammers his brakes and drops to about 60. I mentally thanked him for expressing his opinion to me and decided I would express mine to him. I pulled right to pass, he bagged it. Buick Regal. Need I say more? He slowed to 60, I slowed to zero. I think I saw his dentures bounce off the front windshield. Fag.

    Anyway...

Keeping slow traffic to the right, passing on the left, and moving out of the way for faster traffic presents some substantial benefits. Once habitualized there is a greater predictability to driving; you know with higher certainty how the drivers around you will pass, and who is likely do be in which percentile of speed. Furthermore should you be a faster driver and you are approaching a slower driver you can predict with higher probability that the slower driver will change lanes to the right, and they will know that you are more likely to pass on the left. I'm sure everyone has had the experience where you come roaring up and dude doesn't seem to be paying attention and is likely not to pass but then you both change in to the same lane at the same time and one of both of you fill your undies.

Observing the 'slower traffic keep right' rule of thumb also keeps the bonehole truck drivers doing 95 - 105 km/g out of the left lane (usually) and reduces occurances of cars weaving thru traffic, which is the most dangerous action of all, regardless of speed.

The Euros have done it right. They have as many better drivers as we have worse ones, at least on their high speed roads.

While I don't agree with your tactics, that thought of that is just too damn funny HAHAHA!
You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

I actually don't mind slower drivers, they make it more fun to drive around them, that's just me though. I'm going to look out for EvilN e o n though, cause sometimes I don't mind driving the speed limit (and I do so) and he sounds like a crazy MOFO , BTW there is no such thing as a "fast lane".

FYI: It is true that if you are not able or just not quite doing 100km on deerfoot then you should keep right but keep in mind that it is legal only to do 100km. If you want to be irresponsible by doing 150k then that is your problem and you are a danger to everyone else. However I don't agree with what some people do when they see speeders either, like the old guy you describe. He is just as much an idiot by doing what he did but would he have done that if you weren't going so fast? No. I'm not trying to preach here but is it worth it? You get tickets so the cops get some of your money then the insurance company ups your insurance so you pay more there too not to mention the risk you are taking. I've done my share of dumb things when I was young and it just wasn't worth it and these days we can go to Race city AND join the sports car club..... Anyway good luck and remember tickets go up next week!

    LOL! Carfighting!

    165 neon>120 regal>100 legal limit
So there are now laws for those who break the law: the slower speeder should let the faster speeder go by.

Anyways, you made him pay GOOD. <---Dentures!

Bah, I haven't had a speeding ticket in eight years and for two years I drove from McKenzie to WestJet and back nearly every day doing WAY the hell over the speed limit.

I deserve a ticket, hell I deserve more than one! I won't bitch much when I get one (although I will try to get out of it, of course). It's the price to pay for general driving enjoyment.

Cops just don't see a four door Neon with no tints or bling-bling as a target.

    Warp drive, Scotty.
