Default anyone ever have lock jaw?

I just noticed that it's become really painful for me to open my jaw all the way. Has anyone ever had this happen to them before, and is it just temporary?

Yup yup, but it wasn't painful, and had no problem open my mouth. It's the closing part that's tricky. Feels like the freakin' jawbone unhinged and went to a weird position or something. Usually it goes away after some time, but this one time about 2 years ago it was stuck like that for 2hours! Had to walk around like a drooling retard haha. Then I finally went to a doctor and all they did was reach in and physically pull the lower jaw down and out. He said that's all they can do, so now when it happens I just do it myself.

Lockjaw is different and way more serious than having your jaw lock.

Lockjaw is the common name for Tetanus, and can actually be fatal. If you treat it early its no problem though. If you've cut yourself recently and your Tetanus shot is out of date, get yourself to a doctor.

My friends thought I was full of shit one day when I told them about jaw lock. So I said "fine, take a huge squirt of pure lemon juice and see how it feels" hahaha funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

Ive had TJM (or TMJ, cant remember the exact acronym). I was from a soccer ball to the side of the face, and my jaw locked in place for about 5 days. I had to eat easter dinner through a straw because ti was so bad

    got it as well...quite funny

But yeah, it sounds like TMJ...go to the doctor/dentist and they will be able to diagnose the problem correctly.

I've had this happen after attempting to get my mouth around a costco muffin. Ended up feeling a sharp pain, followed by the inability to move my lower jaw. I stayed that way for 30 minutes or so.

For 2-3 weeks after that, I had a tough time eating due to pain and I could feel/hear grinding on one side. I had about 30% mobility in the jaw and it gradually got better over the 3 weeks. I've had issues like this my entire life, just not this bad. My jaw on one side will still occasionally lock when I'm eating, but usually opening wide and biting down will fix this.

It has to do with the TMJ. Google it and read up on it. I ended up going to the doctor, had x-rays and went to see a dentist. Had a splint made so I wouldn't clench my teeth at night and make the TMJ problem worse.

The bad part is... most health plans specifically have a clause regarding ALL TMJ problems saying they won't cover it. Apparently it's too common, so they'll lose money on it.

haha, i felt one coming on then i read ur post and it was gone

but anyways, that happened to me a while back...it was painful for about a day, then the pain softened the 2nd day and the 3rd day it was gone.

i had no idea what it was though. i figured it may have had to do with the cold weather

TMJ - Temporo-Mandibular Joint... that's ingrained in my head from anatomy class a few years ago.

It is probably a muscle cramp. Eat more calcium.

I saw a homeless dude with no lower jaw the other day. Now that would be a problem. I was about to look twice but forced myself not to.

Orofacial pain can be difficult to treat. Seeing as you have symptoms of TMD I would go see your dentist.

    DING, DING, Ding, Ding,

    We have a winner!!!

See your dentist. TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder) aren't that difficult to treat. You just need to see the right dentist to diagnose the problem accurately, and then treat it properly. Unfortunately, most dentists aren't trained in treating TMJ, so be sure to ask if the dentist you are seeing has had specialized training in treating TMD.

    Hope that helps.
