Anyone ever taken one of these for a test drive?

Seems like a nice little car for the price. 210HP, AWD, fully loaded for $32K

If AWD is the operative word, then nothing.

Chrysler 300 AWD, but will cost you slightly more and is a base model.

This market segment is plastered with FWD. Most making well over 250hp for this price. None have an AWD option.

I am guessing the S4 deal didn't work out. Are you hung up on something new?

Yeh, I gotta have AWD. No way in hell I could ever drive a FWD vehicle.

Big HP is not really a concern, comfort and gas mileage is.

S4 deal is still up in the air. The whole deal is based on how fast he can get his new 335xi from over seas.

Let's compare apples to apples, not number of cylinders.

The top trim-level '07 V6 Fusion is $23,825.

The top trim-level '07 V6 Camry is $27,820.

The top trim-level '07 V6 Accord is $27,400.

The top trim-level '07 V6 Altima is $28,400.

The Fusion is substantially cheaper than all of those cars. I'd say my original by-price comparison is much more relevant than your by-number-of-cylinders comparison. My only error was including a 2006 Camry instead of a 2007. I've adjusted my initial post with the updated numbers.

If I remember correctly, a Ford Fusion is a rebadged Mazda 6 more/less.

The Fusion has pretty much the lowest HP out of the competition (using your $32,000 figure) given about a ~$3000 price variance (if you include FWD vehicles)

The done-up one in the pictures looks OK but Ford interiors and build quality are not worth near $32,000 when you can buy the Accord, Camry, Altima, etc. as previously listed. I've never driven one, but I've driven a Mazda 6 and sat in the Fusion and the interior feels like Fisher Price made it.

The Toyota Camry just got car of the year from Motor Trend as well. I also hear you can buy them from the states for under 30 grand CDN fully loaded.

I just noticed that AWD is a must for you. It's about $10,000 more but the Subaru Legacy GT is an amazing car with lots of HP/torque. Perhaps one from the states would be considerably cheaper, as people were bringing STi's up for a reasonable discount.

You can pick up a nice B6 A4 with the 1.8T or perhaps even the 2.0T or the V6 for $32,000 and its alot more car than the Fusion IMO. 30 seconds in each interior, a drive around the block, or even pressing a couple of buttons on the dash or opening/shutting the door will make the quality difference very apparent.

Also as previously mentioned the 300C would be an OK AWD option if you can get the HEMI in the AWD. It is built on the old Mercedes E class platform.

If AWD is very important, look into a used Legacy GT, hold out for the S4, or pick up a used B6 A4 Audi. All of these cars are, in my opinion, many times better than the Fusion and I really think you will enjoy them more. You also listed comfort as a main concern, so perhaps the Audis will suit you best.

But, everyone can sit here and debate all we want, if you like the fusion the best after driving all the comptition, then that is the right choice for you.

EDIT: I just thought of a Subaru WRX, that would be a pretty good choice too but perhaps not the most comfortable of the bunch.

I didn't look up the price of the Fusion. I based it on the price that Brad quoted and what I have seen on numerous car shows and read in publications.

Everyone says it is underpowered compared to the competition. I am comparing the market segment, not the price point.

The other thing is that other than toyota, most Japanese V6 cars in this category come 1 way... fully loaded. Prices are very comparable fully loaded. A few thousand here, a few thousand there.

You'll be waiting for a while if you want the S4... the 335xi's wont be here until May since people right now who've placed orders are expecting April delivery dates and most of these delivery dates are european delivery.

True, it just felt like we had both presented our sides and it was getting a bit opinion vs. opinion. I think all the cars mentioned are perfectly good, but each has their strengths and weaknesses. Ford has good looks, low price and AWD, but lacks a bit of power in the top-end model. The Camry is a powerful name in the midsize market, but the styling is questionable and it's pretty heavy. The V6 model can also get pricey. The Accord has good looks and the V6 has good performance, but it's comparatively expensive. I honestly am not too familiar with the Altima. Personally, I think the Fusion is a great car for the price, the Accord is good if you're willing to spend the extra cash, and the Camry is a bit, well, boring.

Yeh I know, thats why I started looking at alternatives. Plus, he wants his 335xi without a sunroof, and the only way he can get it is by special order, which will take even longer.

I just wanted to know if anyone has taken the Fusion for a test drive.

HP is not a concern at all. In this city, you're lucky to move along at the posted speed limit, let alone have the opportunity to speed.

^^I don't know where this is coming from, I actually found the fusion interior to be quite european. It looks very classy inside. and u gotta love the analog clock

I agree, I found the Fusion interior quite acceptable.
