Exclamation HELP~ALL my Desktop USB ports STOP Working Suddenly, VERY RARE!

    Hi Masters! Please help me...

I have no idea what i did, all the USB Ports on my desktop stop working, nothing to do with the driver since I have reinstall the windows completely. But USBs still not working, all drivers installed look fine.

My USB Mouse lights up, but won't move on screen, USB Keys, harddrives, printers all won't be recognised by my desktop when pluged.

I think I have a bit knowledge about PCs but never seen this kind problem...all USB ports has the power (since mouse lights up) but none of them will be working after plug USB device.

Can anyone help? I've re-install the windows but still not working...it can't be hardware problem either since all USB ports can be recognised by windows.

    Thanks Masters!

    I'm a tech/service guy at Memx.

Let me guess, you hooked up your ipod?

Sounds like a bad mobo, as the other gents said.

try reinstalling drivers before you go replacing stuff...
theres a USB hub driver or something in the control panel that you can uninstall and then XP should reinstall by itself

(of course you gotta get a hold of a PS/2 keyboard and mouse first!)
Friends don't let friends drive rice.

There is no replacement for displacement

Thought the guy said he already reinstalled windows. And USB drivers are legacy drivers so they already exist on the windows install, no need for other drivers. Definately a hardware issue.

Unless somehow in your Bios theres something you may have switched off. Although for USB i can only think of a couple BIOS options and none of them would actually disable any of the ports, they would just limit speed.

    Fried

USB is very bad. I reset a few system just by plugging USB key in. So I'm not surprised if it's fried.

Are there actual common issues such as that with usb devices? Not that im really worried or anything, but I mean my notebook gets usb devices plugged in and out and in and out of the damn thing all day. Im just wondering if its worth worrying about.

The chance is small. If you are worried, used a powered USB hub.

Thanks all...it seems i got really bad luck last night...but how can I fire all the USB ports? I only used 1 for mouse and the other for USB Key...I have 6 USB ports, 2 in front and 4 on back...all of them fired at once??

Any idea on what i can do right now? a PC without USB is kind useless...plus I spent over $3000 on this BOX 2 years ago...crying...

longshot, but look for other usb headers on your motherboard that were not connected, maybe you can connect to them and they may still be working.

Also, make sure usb is enabled in your bios... never discount the obvious.

really? I didn't know there were any other employees on this forum. I didn't know anyone had an FD w/ a t60 - i thought i had the fastest car in the company

oz388, it sounds like an issue with your motherboard. If you don't want to replace your motherboard, just buy a USB PCI card to plug in and use that instead.
